Hmm, the Catholic church then decided itself that it is infallible in its interpretation of Scripture, based on what?

Not Scripture for sure. There’s no Scripture to support that.

It must therefore be the tradition that they claim is on equal footing with the written word.

They have the whole thing sewed up top to bottom, all based on their say so.

How very convenient.

The most perplexing thing is that, from a legalistic perspective, you have no standing. Since you are not now Catholic and are doubtful to ever return to the true Church, it is really none of your business what or how Catholics decide what constitutes the revealed Word.

Based on the "faithfuls instinctive sensitivity and discrimination which the members of the Church possess in matters of faith. " It is collective infallibility, in matters they hold common to be the true Catholic faith. They simply "cannot err in matters of belief."

How are you going to argue your point from scripture with someone who believes their tradition is infallible? And their tradition is on equal standing with Scripture? After all, ..."the Church does not draw her certainty about all revealed truths from the holy Scriptures alone. Hence, both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and honored with equal feelings of devotion and reverence." - Second Vatican Council

"[ The Church] has always regarded, and continues to regard the Scriptures, taken together with sacred Tradition, as the supreme rule of her faith." - Second Vatican Council

Sure there is!

[16] Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. [18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
