Because Christianity is not a religion of a book, but a religion of the entire revealed Word of God.
“”On the few occasions I attended RC services family members thought it odd that I brought my Bible and I did notice that no one else attending brought a Bible.”

Maybe if you had grabbed a missel at the entrance where the hymnals are kept, you could have read the the readings and Gospel for that day without bringing yours. Also, it’s easier to sing along with the choir the psalms if you have the missel in front of you.
I only have selected psalms I love memorized so that is what I have to do.
Christianity is that of one who has commited Himself to Christ and accepted his sacrificial gift of Life...further that we follow Him. He has given us His written word as a compass to lead us where we need to walk and what to avoid to be pleasing to Him...how to discern and test by,..and a hosts of other things necessary to live life by. What do you mean it is not a Religion of “a Book”...it is not simply a book sir...it is God’s revealed word to us and thru His Holy Spirits work as he moved men to write. There is no other writings He has said were needed. Though certainly there are those which are helpful and might inspire us to search the things of God deeper in His word. He gave us these words that we can grow thereby and finish the course set before us. It is complete just as we have it.

The only Truth we can be sure of today is Scripture. It does not change with the emotions of the moment.
If you want to rely on your church as the final authority for your faith look where it's taken your members. RC's are so lost they chase around looking for apparitions to tell them the future. RC's are so lost without the Bible they believe rituals save them and their priests have magic powers.
