Taking the Eucharist is not mentioned in Scripture as the means of receiving Christ.

Uh...you must have skipped over John 6: 53-59

John 1:11-13

11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

These verses are always used to point out Jesus' speaking of his sacrifice of his body and blood for us and the consternation he caused when he said his body and blood must be eaten and drank (drunk?). This DID cause many to leave from following him and put a "bounty" on his head in Judea. Some time passed (months or maybe years)before the actual crucifixion happened, yet nowhere else in that gospel is there any mention of what is known as the commemoration of the bread and wine as the body and blood of Christ during the "Last Supper". Of the four "gospels" only John does not include that part.

I just think there is some significance that only in John does Jesus speak so graphically about his flesh and blood being "consumed" for salvation but the entire act from which the Eucharist celebration is derived is not even mentioned. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

Keep going.... 60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" John 6:61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you? 62What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
