So I was told. That’s one of many verses that had to be parsed and spun and twisted to prop up the conclusion that had been reached. It worked for me up to a point. Then, it didn’t.
Respectfully, I think it takes far more twisting, spinning and parsing to conclude that verse means God will condemn us to hell if we don't "chastise" or subject our bodies to discipline. Some people twist that to mean hair-shirts, cold showers in wintertime or whipping themselves in order to be saved. I can't see that. It was Christ who was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed (Isa. 53).
