But I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.

-- 1 Corinthians 9:27

------ One of the many verses that I had "explained away" to me back in my sola day. I forget how - probably because the explanation was nonsense.

The Matthew 25 passage is amazing for the surprise expressed by both sheep and goats about doing / not doing and the consequences of same.

I believe that the ending passage of Matthew 25 explains Christianity better than any other single passage in the entire Bible.

Perhaps people who just assume when they reads words like "castaway", it means condemned - BY GOD, need to realize that scripture DOES interpret scripture. I can read this verse and understand clearly that Paul is speaking of being ignored, disparaged, or cast aside by people he is preaching to. Just like we all do when we see a person's lifestyle contradict their words. We call them hypocrites. I can also understand through other scriptures that I cannot LOSE my salvation just because I sin. God forgives, God disciplines, God chastises all those who are his but he will never cast us away. He PROMISED!
