The crud refers more to the means of presentation, though the content is often attached. Likely because this tradition is so long running that the means is tied to the content, and people generally don’t think up new ways to argue these things.

I’ve never witnessed a “win” in these bouts. It’s usually just argument that ends with people being frustrated and throwing up their hands. Others have hurt feelings or think their Catholic/Protestant opposition is just a bunch of morons.

I don’t even see that “stronghold coming down” on this thread. I see the same arguments that are made on the other threads, with the usual suspects making the usual claims.

Believe me, I know what you mean about being passionate for one’s beliefs. That’s why I chimed in with what I did. My beliefs often put me in opposition to both sides, even though it is not a position I strive for. Usually it’s the Catholics/Protestants deciding I’m in opposition.

And you are right. They bicker and debate within their own fellowships. I won’t criticize that, because that comes with my request to “get your own house in order” before turning on others.

I’m not going to say that people can’t be reached through argument on the internet. I just haven’t ever seen it, and I don’t think it’s likely.

But you do see that it is the debates where ones who have teachable spirits do indeed learn, and even some understand others of differing faiths, though they may still disagree. Most of those posting believe strongly in their faith and many are well taught also. We can understand better for that and why people believe as they do.

There are those who will attest they have seen “strongholds” come down...this mans testimony certainly attests to that happening. Maybe you leave the threads too soon. It's a wonderful thing when the differences are set aside and a general agreement is reached on what is common between the two folds. That's breathing room the Lord gives for both sides of the debates.

Lets not forget that the moderators make perfectly clear the open threads can have wailing and gnashing of teeth and not for the fainthearted. Thin skinned should not be there UNLESS, and I urge this, they want to learn how not to be.

These threads teach us to stand for the faith we believe in and this and I for one often have felt.. with the way the world is going... we all better have tougher hides because we are going to need it...like it or not.

They are being reached. It’s just that things of the spirit are invisible.
