Surely the good doctor recognizes that his argument and Bible texts work as well against him as they do for him?

lol. That kind of logic is straight from Rome.

Scripture is the word of God; truth made known to men by the Holy Spirit. Scripture does not contradict itself. Men's beliefs and practices either align with Scripture or they contradict Scripture.

And welcome to Free Republic, newbie.

INDEED. WELL SAID.

Dear Heart . . . I’m dismayed . . . it’s confirming in a way . . .

the declaration that

Mary was the mother of Almighty[/Father] God!

that the whole MOTHER OF GOD title

IS

outrageously perverse from the Biblical stand poing.

It’s just mind boggling that anyone who claims to have even a moderate understanding of The Bible could tolerate such an outrageous idea.

Boggles my mind. I’m still stunned.

However, brazenly asserting the underlying deception, manipulation, IS a lot better than the ridiculous denials.

Sigh.

The proper word is "Immaculate".

Mary's conception was not "immaculate."

Ditch the fables that bestow on a fallible creature the glory that belongs to God alone.

Anyone who thinks God is pleased by this deceptive theft is in for a rude awakening.

The “spirit” behind heresy is primarily the desire to destroy the things of God.

Actually, I believe it would be called the spirit of anti-Christ.

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. - I John 4:3

Thank you for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!

"Thanks for the facts, Old Reggie."

To quote Ronald Reagan; "There you go again (and again, and again)!" Perhaps you weren't paying attention the first two times today I posted the truth in response to the lies or maybe thought you could sneak on again without being confronted.

The 1917 Code of Canon Law, which abolished all ecclesiastical penalties not mentioned in the Code itself (canon 6), made "anathema" synonymous with "excommunication" (canon 2257). There is no ritual or provisions for anathema included in the post-Vatican II revision of the Pontifical.

Note: Fact checking does not mean checking to see if the "fact" agrees with you.

Don't you think we know the apparent similarity?

It isn't apparent. It is a direct comparison. Almost to a tee.

We do claim an explicit scriptural commissioning and promises.

So did they... Only theirs is FOREVER, and still they were destroyed.

That may explain why we do not claim to have delineated and defined every possible aspect of the Faith. Crises come up, and then resolutions are arrived at -- as at Jerusalem, so at Vatican II

No. Perhaps that works internally, but the big "conflicts" have not been resolved... At least not since the sword has been taken away from her. Her two biggest schisms remain apart. And rightly so. So I cannot accept that statement as accurate.

But while it seems to trouble the half-empty side of the aisle, I think it's a step forward to say that other "Ecclesial assemblies" include "separated brethren." It's good because of the obvious fact that there are some very holy people who ain't all the way in the Catholic Church.

There's a great bunch of holy people (as much as one can use the term as such) who will *never* be in the Roman church *at all*. And that's O.K.

I don't find the term "separated brethren" to be any step forward. It amounts to silver-tongued diplo-speak ((c)Quix Inc.). Nothing has changed, nor will it.

If Christ Himself came down and told me to bow to "saints" and accept the "eucharist", I would do it - But that ain't gonna happen. It is written.

I'm inclined to be very careful in assessing fruits. It may be a drag that some people get themselves crucified on Good Friday out of a perverse misunderstanding of appropriate penance. But it beats the heck out of fighting each other on Good Friday because they have no idea that there might be better ways to spend the day.

That is not the point. We are assessing the fruits of an organization - not the individuals within it. God WILL judge the churches (5 maids without oil), just as He will judge the nations. Do you think that America will escape judgment because of the Bible Belt? Why would churches (rites/confessions/denominations) be any different?

I think cannibalism has shown a marked decline. That's not such a bad fruit.

Ooh, look! A shiny, new "We don't eat people" badge! That'll look good on the uniform! ; )

"Anyone who thinks God is pleased by this deceptive theft is in for a rude awakening."

Rude awakenings, fire and brimstone, hell and damnation are the domain of the colorless, humorless, joyless torment you call the OPC. Thank God the Catholic Church is filled with redemption, forgiveness, joy, and Beatitude.

(hint: immaculate does not mean "infallible", but then again you probably never had cause to understand either in the context of your religion)

John Wayne lived and died a Presbyterian.

Roman Catholics can keep all the “deathbed conversions” they care to concoct.

Protestants will be happy to welcome converts while they’re still breathing.

Being conditioned from almost birth that The Church is infallible in all doctrines of faith and morals, is a difficult thing to doubt. All other dogmas could then also be suspect. So much balances on this holding, that to allow in even a shadow of a doubt is to be opened up to the question of "What else did they make a mistake about?". I fully understand the fierce defense and the almost hair-trigger response and objection to any disagreement.

Very interesting.

Thank you so very much for your engaging insight, dear sister in Christ!

"Dude! It makes for such a good story!"

Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Attempting to post the same lies over and over and over again and expecting it to somehow be accepted as true fits the description. But then again, there is no sanity requirement to join the FR anti-Catholic posse.

"John"

Wayne lived and died a Presbyterian."

Keep banging your head against this wall and it is going to live a mark. Wayne lived his sin-filled life as a Presbyterian, but he found his Salvation and died a Catholic. The evidence is overwhelming and available for anyone who cares to look for it. Seriously, based upon your posting history no one is going to take your word for anything.
