Before I click on to your link, is it from scripture? Because if its not, youre wasting my time. And yours.
There are some biblical references, but everyone knows there is no explicit statement in Scripture that Peter was in Rome. There are verses that point very persuasively to the fact that he was, and there is a strong Apostolic tradition that he was.
In any event, none of this apparently would convince you, because it is clear from your post that you reject out-of-hand ANYTHING that is not explicitly stated in the Bible. You reject completely the possibility of the early Church teaching Catholic doctrines, isn't that right?
By the way, the Trinity is not explicitly stated in the Bible. It's not even moderately spelled out. Do you reject the doctrine of the Trinity? It was defined by a CATHOLIC Church council, in 325 A.D., called by a pope. It's not in the Bible.

2 Cor. 2:10 - Paul forgives in the presence of Christ (some translations refer to the presences of Christ as in persona Christi). Some say that this may also be a reference to sins. 2 Cor. 5:18 - the ministry of reconciliation was given to the ambassadors of the Church. This ministry of reconciliation refers to the sacrament of reconciliation, also called the sacrament of confession or penance. The rest of this post is the result of not reading God's Word rightly divided.
THIS part is just garbage. Plain garbage. Who is this "SOME" you speak of? Your garbage man? Your cashier at the local Walmart? Oprah?
"The sacrament of confession or penance"?!? You REALLY need to get thee to a bible quickly. Or an exorcist. The question is: which one would you choose, if you were forced to choose? My guess is the exorcist. I don't know why..just saying..

Or perhaps it was just a moment and feeling of endearment as Jesus prepared to leave him, this man with whom Jesus had traveled for three years. A gentle expression of love and tenderness, remembering the simple fisherman, a humble man of faith who would now be pulled to places where he did not want to go and to suffer as he would not want to suffer.

It's the Catholics who post links to reams and reams of pages written 'about' scripture
...and non-Catholics DON'T write "reams and reams of pages" giving their own interpretations of Scripture, many of them at odds with one another on fundamental points of doctrine?
My goodness, where have you been? You can go into any Christian bookstore (we have a huge "Lighthouse" store near us) and find long rows full of books interpreting Scripture, from commentaries to concordances. I couldn't believe how many books and authors there were on the shelves devoted specifically to the Bible.
You think Catholics are the only ones who write theology or exegesis?

We don't think that Jesus said what he said, and immediately 8 strong men showed up with a sedan chair and a tiara. I think neither Peter nor James nor anyone else (but only Jesus) knew what Peter's primacy (stipulating it pro tem) would mean.
Ya got anything in scripture that says Christianity or the church would evolve over the centuries???
Or when the Apostle John writes that what was written (in the scripture) was written so that we would know that we have eternal life??? You're saying that John meant that what was written by the Catholic church a few centuries down the road???
Or that when the scripture says we are not to add nor take anything away from the written scriptures, that that was just a punchline for a good joke???
I'm seeing that we have been warned, in those same scriptures that we should stay away from any religion that comes up with extra-biblical ideas such as those of your religion...
2Co 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

Metmom: There is NOTHING in the entire NT outside that one verse in Matthew that that gives even the slightest indication that what Catholics say Jesus meant about Peter being the rock on which His church would be built or being in any position of authority over the other *church fathers*.
Evidently you missed post 3058 by Deo Volente where :
Matt. to Rev. - Peter is mentioned 155 times and the rest of apostles combined are only mentioned 130 times. Peter is also always listed first except in 1 Cor. 3:22 and Gal. 2:9 (which are obvious exceptions to the rule).
A quick search on Google with the name "Barack Obama" shows approximately 203 million results.
A search on Ronald Reagan shows approximately 11,600,000 results.
Clearly Barack Obama is more important to the history of the United States.
It's a rather stupid conclusion isn't it?

How very odd that someone would say such a thing as "The heresy of sola scriptura cannot be found in scripture.". Is it me, or does that sound like a contradiction right there? If it could be found in Scripture - which we believe it can easily be proven - it would not be acceptable since Scripture is not their sole measure of authority.A brilliant observation... And it is not remarkable only in the aspect that our opponents' reasoning is nearly always circular. It must be, in order to sustain a belief which is faulty. One must always orbit around that fault, never getting too close, never confronting it head on.
Sola-scriptura is a simple matter to validate:
God said stuff. He said specifically what He likes, what He doesn't like, and what He will do.
If someone comes along claiming to be speaking in God's name, the only means of determining the validity of what is being said is to return to the words, which we all agree, God DID say. That is the simplicity of sola-scriptura.
It really makes me wonder why the concept is fought so viciously today. [...] What are they afraid of?
That is as simple as can be: God didn't say what they propose in the past; ergo, it is not the truth today. Allowing the testimony of the Bible to be entered into the argument defeats them wholly.

What's so ironic is the criticism of non-[ROMAN] Catholics by [ROMAN] Catholics that what they present is merely personal opinion by members of an organization who bases their most important teachings on traditions, IOW, the personal opinions of others..... long dead. It'd be funny if the hypocrisy displayed weren't so sad.
It'd be funnier . . . if . . . the Pacific Ocean wasn't accusing the SINGLE RAINDROP of having too much water, on such scores!

What exactly do you use sola interpretura to interpret in that? Peter was in Jerusalem, the see of Bishop James (i.e. James was responsible for what's going on in Jerusalem). Peter escapes, thanks to the Lord. Peter then says "Tell James and the brothers about this" --> duuuuuuh
There was no "see".
There was no "Bishop James"
Good work for a writer of fiction.

Especially in light of the fact that the Jewish people tradionally list names from the oldest first, in HONOR OF THEIR ELDERS> Peter WAS the oldest. But I’m sure this make too much SENSE to be right...
