A Church Father is anyone who (1) taught orthodox doctrine and learning, (2) possessed holiness of life, and (3) had a certain antiquity. Early authors who do not possess these qualities are considered ecclesiastical writers

In the Roman Catholic Church, St. John of Damascus, who lived in the 8th century, is generally considered to be the last of the Church Fathers and at the same time the first seed of the next period of church writers, scholasticism. St. Bernard is also at times called the last of the Church Fathers.

A brief list is then:
2 Apostolic Fathers
2.1 Clement of Rome
2.2 Ignatius of Antioch
2.3 Polycarp of Smyrna
3 Greek Fathers
3.1 Irenaeus of Lyons
3.2 Clement of Alexandria is technically not a Church Father but instead referred to as an ecclesiastical writer
3.3 Origen of Alexandria
3.4 Athanasius of Alexandria
3.5 Cyril of Alexandria
3.6 John Chrysostom
3.7 Cappadocian Fathers
4 Latin Fathers
4.1 Tertullian
4.2 Cyprian of Carthage
4.3 Ambrose of Milan
4.4 Jerome of Stridonium
4.5 Augustine of Hippo
4.6 Gregory the Great

Firstly, none of what I said are platitudes, nor what St. Francis de Sales did

Secondly, your statement's premise that the presence of or provision of platitudes in any way predicts is fallacious to the extreme, more importantly it betrays a lack of knowledge on standard logic. The presence or or provision or ability to provide A does not necessarily predict in any way B.

Good link, in which it does say that
In other words, "in terms of dialect geography, at the time of the tannaim Palestine could be divided into the Aramaic-speaking regions of Galilee and Samaria and a smaller area, Judaea, in which Rabbinic Hebrew was used among the descendants of returning exiles."[10][11] In addition, it has been surmised that Koine Greek was the primary vehicle of communication in coastal cities and among the upper class of Jerusalem, and Aramaic was prevalent in the lower class of Jerusalem, but not in the surrounding countryside
Galilee = Aramaic speaking...

Actually, no, his heart is not in a jar of jam. that might be sufficient in size if ever one had to do the same procedure to a member of the OrthoPresybterian Cult who pretends to be a doctor, but otherwise, no.

Statues are fine. Kneeling to statues. Bowing to statues. Praying to statues. Those are the things God abhors.

Well, let's see -- no Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican or Lutheran prays to statues. Those are just items of wood or stone. Secondly, no kneeling or bowing to statues? Have you been to a Traditional Anglican church lately?

Actually, no, Calvin wasn’t part of the elite elect 144,000 as the OPC preaches. So, Calvin is not in heaven as per the OPC, he’s with his calvingod in the other place.

Actually, relics predate faith. The apple was a relic in the Garden of Eden —> ha ha. So, it was a relic you say? A relic of ..?

Yes, the grammar uses it as Jesus calls Peter a rock.

Yes, as you said, that’s what passes for Raving Calvinist exegesis.

No words in your mouth -- you quoted from John to contradict the Gospel of Matthew. Do you expect them to be clones of each other? Does the Gospel of John, according to you, have any such "you are Peter and on this rock..." in it?

Next you'll be saying that there is no proof in scripture for the Trinity.

Petrine primacy is clear in matters of spiritual example and leadership. The current and previous Pope have demonstrated this understanding in line with the Orthodox. Each bishop has a position to answer to God for —> a parish priest must answer for the spiritual status of his parish flock, a bishop for his diocese, a Patriarch for HIS and among these Patriarchs, the Patriarch of the West is liable for a lot. It’s not an easy position and hell burns hottest for the popes that fail (the Borgia pope, I like to believe has got it worse than any person)

Good point -- Peter plays the role of elder brother, the final earthly decider for the Faith. Why? Because he had the simple faith and the grace given from above.

The other apostles WERE important, very important and they were responsible for their sees, hence the Patriarch of Moscow, of Antioch, of Alexandria are responsible for their sees.

Uh it was an example of the whole relic worship whiney from the other court.

Let us get a bit closer.

When I see a bit of bone segment and a Priest says it is from one of the Saints...

I don’t question it but look upon it as a historical artifact to our 2010 years.

Have you not witnessed miracles and “seen” in your own life?

Certainly as a RnMomof7.

You have history. No relics? No treasures of things you may save to share with your 7 and carry on history?

And as an RN..witness to life/death.

You must have family traditions?
Even a favorite recipe that you want the kids to share out of Love?

It really is that simple.

You should also point out to your friend that Acts 15 disproves the doctrine of sola Scriptura. If Peter would have relied upon the Scriptures, he would have concluded that Gentiles had to be circumcised, since all the Patriarchs and prophets were, the apostles were, and even Jesus was. But Peter, by virtue of his authority, decides the issue as the chief shepherd of the Church (and the decision was not based on the Scriptures).
Brilliant. Thank you

Although there is much to admire in his writings too often his early life and study of Manichaeism and Neoplatonism bleeds through and confuses or clouds his thoughts

+Augustine was a Doctor of the Church, but like all of us, he was human and his writings show his strong reaction against the earlier heresies he followed. Just like Nestorius reacted strongly against Arius. However, Nestorius went too strongly to the other extreme. +Augustine danced with the other extreme, but only the ones who misread and quote out of context his works, only those folks cross the line to the other heretical extreme

Count me out.

I am just the elderly lady in the pew who lifts up Prayer intentions/Rosary for all.

Not a theologian.

you mean, St. Augustine wrote this:
would not believe in the Gospel if the authority of the Catholic Church did not move me to do so.)
