No, it hasn’t started.

It’s been going on for a LONG time now.

I worked with an awful lot of Catholics who had a lifetime supply of nasty pills and were faithful in taking them.

"If I were not a Catholic, and were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which did not get along well with the world; in other words, I would look for the Church which the world hates.

"My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be hated as He was when He was on earth in the flesh.

"If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that does not get along with the world. Look for the Church that is hated by the world, as Christ was hated by the world.

"Look for the Church which is accused of being behind the times, as Our Lord was accused of being ignorant and never having learned. Look for the Church which men sneer at as socially inferior, as they sneered at Our Lord because He came from Nazareth.

"Look for the Church which is accused of having a devil, as Our Lord was accused of being possessed by Beelzebub, the Prince of Devils. Look for the Church which, in seasons of bigotry, men say must be destroyed in the name of God as men crucified Christ and thought they had done a service to God.

"Look for the Church which the world rejects because it claims it is infallible, as Pilate rejected Christ because He called Himself the Truth.

"Look for the Church which is rejected by the world as Our Lord was rejected by men.

"Look for the Church which amid the confusion of conflicting opinions, its members love as they love Christ, and respect its Voice as the very voice of its Founder, and the suspicion will grow, that if the Church is unpopular with the spirit of the world, then it is unworldly, and if it is unworldly, it is other-worldly. Since it is other-worldly it is infinitely loved and infinitely hated as was Christ Himself.

"But only that which is Divine can be infinitely hated and infinitely loved. Therefore the Church is Divine."

-- Archbishop Msgr. Fulton J. Sheen, D.D., "Preface", Radio Replies, Volume I; TAN Books, 1979

Hey, it’s just SOP for virtually all the Catholics I ever knew. You become immune to it after a while.

It kind of just rolls off my back like water off a duck at this point.

"And Catholics can't support adding tradition to Scripture from Scripture...

Because it is completely unnecessary. There is no scriptural mandate that we must do so.

Yes..the Inquisition was an atrocity beyond imagination. Not long ago I looked closer at that period of catholic history...I knew it was bad I did not realize the depth of evil and brutality that it went to in it's barbaric and cruelty of the people then....all in the name of the church!

I’d sure be embarrassed if that was the best my team could produce.

It seems to me that his commentary says more about him than it does about us.

It is also an amazement to me that his folks don't correct him, in the light of the outright and unmerited personal attack against you.

Had you or I done the same, there is no doubt in my mind that the RM would have been called over... and in a New York second, to boot.

I know Boatmans..it really goes beyond sad. I am grateful the Lord knows and will determine the future of those who continue to resist His leading...with hope that those who are seeking God for who he is will find Him.

I also wonder if Mary really had free-will so that she could have rejected the conception of the Christ - which it seems to me that is why she is revered so much, because she assented - then what would have happened to her "immaculate conception"? In other words, IF she had rejected God's request, would she have "lost" this singular grace and become a regular sinner like us all? Would her sinfulness have become retroactive?

MD - you get into the deep theological stuff, how do you see this conundrum?

It’s been an extremely long time.

The nasty attitude and spirit is really outrageously extreme on this thread—for no good reason other than personal pique and thin skinned chips on shoulders on the part of several RC’s.

Such folks really should stay off the open threads. They can’t handle them and have no place on them.

I suspect the RM has been busy with other duties or I assume he’d have likely said something similar.

More sobering, however is the spiritual dreadfulness and family relationship dreadfulness that undoubtedly goes with such nastiness. Folks don’t just put on and take off such nastiness easily, frequently or fully.

IT’S USUALLY THERE and comes spewing out in every area of one’s life.

THAT’S sad to contemplate.

They could treat this thread as a good clue of what they need to take to the cross and probably a spiritual counselor until they are delivered of such a spirit, attitude, nastiness. Instead, they seem to exalt in it.

Dreadful.

In the early days of FR, the free-for-alls could be this nasty but usually it resulted—often in the peak of such battles—in several people getting permently banned.

I don’t see any need of that. I do think some folks need to stay off the open threads for 6 months or more until they decide they are willing and able to play like grown ups.

I can see from hereon how true that must have been.

Sheesh.

I’ve known some RC’s like that in my, life too.

Until FR, I just assumed they were occasional misfits.

Here they seem to be a majority of the population.

Well I would disagree with the requirements you listed here as reflecting the catholic church as you seem to indicate...rather History does show catholic Popes and it’s leadership were actually those doing these atrocities to others.

I know. I know. Lots of folks feel that way, for good reason.

NO biggy, on my account, however.

Well then it is pretty bad as I thought. Stunning really. You are right to have concerns for family and other relationships...you certainly could spot this with your experience in your occupation. Sheesh I really am quite astounded.

I found a web page that described the instruments of torture used and has pictures of them and described what they did to the human body.

I couldn’t read much of it. Barbarism beyond belief. It is beyond my comprehension how one human being to inflict such horror and pain on another, much less claiming it was in the name of Christ.

I have been reading up on thread and am about an inch away from locking it for childish behavior.

People do not throw spitwads when they have ammunition.

If those on the receiving end of a round of spitwads would realize this, declare a "win" and quit responding to the throwers - the thread would settle down.

But when they throw spitwads back or whimper the whole thread is consumed by petty childishness.

If I were not a Catholic, and we were looking for the true Church in the world today, I would look for the one Church which the world ignores, a church that has a reputation of telling truth in the most inopportune times and places.

"My reason for doing this would be, that if Christ is in any one of the churches of the world today, He must still be waiting to find one that believed the Word of GOd alone, rightly dividing the word of truth, and wanting more than anything God's approval as His workers who need not be ashamed before God.

"If you would find Christ today, then find the Church that has no cathedrals, artwork, surrounding beauty, awe in its inspriring stained glass and ceilings covered with the artwork of the heavens.

Look for the Church that has comfortable seating, an podium and a God's Holy Bible open, ready for study. Look for a chalkboard near the podium with lots of fat chalk, so things can be explained for the eyes to see, too.

Look for the Church that has as it's budget a picnic on the grounds. And weekly bible study at different member's houses. Look for collection boxes at the back of the church. And lots of books that can be checked out for edification.

THis church is never going to be wealthy or powerful. In man's eyes. You can't get rich and powerful telling people that Salvation is a free gift of God. And the finished work of Christ is what saves you. And that purgatory doesn't exist and praying for the dead is a waste of time and money. There would be no confessionals, we go straight to GOd with our problems. There would be no priests. Our sins have already been remitted BY THE CROSS, But what this church would have the the Power of the Word of Truth, rightly divided and the commission to spread the Gospel of the Grace of God. Our members would be free of fear and retribution and would not fall prey to doctrines of men and the wiles of Satan. This church exists to praise GOd and spread His Gospel of Grace. I think this is a Church GOd would be very proud of.
