Much of the worst behavior on the Religion Forum is obviously the fruit of intemperate and/or indiscreet zeal. Many could take this as mind reading or an intemperate statement on your own part. Ecclesiastes notes that for every thing there is a time. There is a time for more 'temperate' or 'descreet' discussions. Then there are times for more zeal (such as the Apostle Paul's statement that he wished the Judiazers would castrate themselves (Gal 5:12)).
Actually, during my several years of exile from FR, I came to the conclusion that intemperate and indiscreet zeal was my own primary fault in the past on FR, and I set out to find references in the writings of Christian spiritual masters on the subject. So yes, I'm guilty of the same, in spades. I thought my own consciousness of this fault on my part might therefore help others struggling with the same fault.
I've been collecting these excerpts for several years, and a recent thread, Prayers for The Religion Forum (Ecumenical), was the catalyst for posting this thread.
