Much of the worst behavior on the Religion Forum is obviously the fruit of intemperate and/or indiscreet zeal. Once we all realize this, it should change our posting habits here.
From your lips to God’s ears, however, I wouldn’t hold my breath and turn blue. Some of those posters are too far gone.
Something to consider. You may know others who would benefit from a ping to this thread.
What is to far? Example.
This is about 21 mos too late. The zeal of some voting for Obama could have been curtailed.
"The law entered in so that transgression might increase but, where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through justification for eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
-Romans 5:20-21
“What is to far? Example.”
Statements such as “Your flesh will burn in hell for eternity unless you take Jesus as your savior now and vow that every word written in the King James bible is sacrosanct dogma directly from God.”
And if you are tempted to say “But that’s true!”, don’t bother replying.
Disagreement is characterized as "hate," dissenters become trolls or shills.....
In part it's the curse of the internet -- a place where manners are not required. But it's also a sign of the times.
Ok. that is an example but I have never seen any such thing written as you portray it.
Wow, that's the truth.
Wouldn't this be an example of "going too far"?
I do see disagreements on unimportant matters on the RF, and minor things that cause division in the Body of Christ, and that grieves me.
However, I get much grief and accusations for my role in posting about the LDS, their teachings and doctrines and THOSE are NOT minor or unimportant differences. As we often show, Mormon teachings and doctrines exclude them from the Body of Christ. That is not intemperate or indiscreet zeal in the least. That is telling the Biblical truth.
I would consider that a belief that I disagree with. If, based on that belief, a poster begins to personally attack and ridicule you, the poster has not only gone too far but ironically made himself a poor representative for the same Church, in my opinion. I have experienced extreme viciousness on FR, however my own faith is strong enough (just not dogmatic) to disregard, for the most part.
Yes because it’s against the Word of God! When the RCC goes to hell and back, they can claim they can remit sins.
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!”
Seems like Jesus wants us HOT for HIM!
Log.
Speck.
Eye.
Just a thought, not a sermon.
However, I get your point, maybe the detractors and "social justice activists" who choose to attack the messengers instead of the message may benefit from your post as well.
Who here at FR voted for Obama?
There was an article up a couple of days ago that discussed the inability to reason and communicate shown by many in today's society. I think we see that here on many hot-button issues. Instead of considering issues as abstractions, people form a powerful emotional attachment to a figure or a position, and then they are unable either communicate reasonably about their position, or to engage with other perspectives.
It gets really boring.
I had a pastor some years back who told me, "If you're upset, then you're the problem. Don't engage in any apologetics if you can't be calm and reasonable, or if you feel personally hostile or threatened." To this day, if I'm tempted to respond to a post that upsets me, I say to myself, "Father Paul said not to!" and go back to discussing the weather and fashion.
I agree completely. If someone has a problem with a poster’s zeal for THE TRUTH, let him answer in truth, with God’s Word as his authority. If that offends ‘quietors’ then so be it. To allow the truth to be ignored in the name of humility, is a false choice.
Is the article addressing FR?
