WASHINGTON Mitt Romney and his strategists expected his Mormon faith to fade as an issue for fundamentalist Christians during his first presidential campaign. This time around, should he choose to run again, they have doubts.
...But even as the national Republican establishment warms to Romney as never before, the former candidate and his closest aides now believe a group of voters will always be off-limits because of his religion.

In Iowa, three-fifths of caucus-goers considered themselves born-again or evangelical Christian, according to a survey, taken for a media consortium as voters entered the caucuses.

More than one-third of caucus-goers said a candidates religion matters a great deal, and Huckabee won more than 56 percent of their votes.

Religious scholars have long debated the extent to which Mormonism is compatible with traditional Christian teachings...
The question is whether a particular church-going Christian is willing to set those differences aside as irrelevant to holding the office of president, or take them quite seriously as heretical and cultish, said James F. Gimpel, a University of Maryland political scientist who informally advised George W. Bushs 2004 reelection campaign. There are a great many evangelical Christians who would have a hard time justifying a vote for Romney under any circumstances.

...In his best-selling book No Apology, published this spring, Romney mentioned his Mormon roots only in passing, and the two page section on Belief and Purpose strives for a common language that is secular and civic rather than theological.

I think for most Americans theyre not terribly concerned about someones religious beliefs, unless of course it relates to their love of the country or something like that, Romney said in the interview...

So, now that the Forum Rules have been brought to your attention perhaps you could cease criticizing those who are actually following them.
I suggest you reread the part about the RF being a "town hall".
Apart from responding directly to questions asked of me I did. I suggest you find someone else to lecture.
Maybe they don’t have town halls in Tibet...
Maybe you didn’t read the admonition about making it personal. lol
Tiger:
This is a religion forum and it is perfectly acceptable to debate doctrines with anyone who cares to engage in discussions. No one put a gun to your head or anyone
Further, most LDS and non-LDS recognize the difference in doctrines and have openly debated those differences which are also part and parcel of our respective faiths.
LDS claims to be the restored church, with all other faiths and gnosticisms having their history and present apostasy or fallen away and therefore not or no longer valid forms of worship.
In fact, there is no LDS without that claim. It is not they introduce a new or another way of worshiping God as in say the difference between how an Independent Baptist might look as opposed to a Southern Baptist or Fundamental Baptist. Further, the difference between a Methodist or Presbyterian foundation.
But at no time do we think each other to be apostates or attempt the vanity of elevating our belief over another, much having the gall to say we can attain god ship on par with well.... God.
LDS makes no bones about their viewpoint and their whole system of gaining new converts is about attacking the belief and undermining the illiteracy of Christians.
There is no more embarrassment to FR than that of not discussing a subject or dissenting.
The real embarrassment is when a dissenter posits nothing that adds to the conversation and usually done out a lack of information and self possessed Character that seeks out opportunities to co-opt an idea, thought or conversation.
Congratulations.
I said that I hadn’t noticed that this was a religious forum thread when I first posted. Like so many others here you just don’t bother to read before posting.
See post #307.
"Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the Church of the Lamb of God and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore whoso belongeth not to the church of the lamb of God belongeth to that great church; which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth." (The Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:10)
Excellent post, Vendome. (And you say that as one who lives in the midst of many Mormons)
Plenty of outstretched arms here Resty whenever you decide to do the same. Please don't wait!
So THAT’S where the Catholics get the idea there are 20,000 protestant denominations!!! ;o)
I hate it when people rib me in the kidneys.
His post and style just ticked me off.
Your ignorance was first, so I am only a runner up.
Laughing hard...(all until I realized what the typical Tibetan Buddhist has to endure)
Another one who feels no need to adhere to the rules. I guess you’re speshul.
Apparently the rules don’t apply to you either. lol
What? Are you from Tibet? (Or is it you just don't like people being advocates of Tibetans who endure what they do at the hands of tyrants there, religious and otherwise?)

I have read every post on this thread now and haven't seen one that took up that cause. Please ping me to that post.
It's nice Reno, that you could, after all, find a "buddy-buddy" on this thread...even if you had to resort to linking arms with a Buddhist who dedicated his FReeper home page to unnamed "omniscient...sentient beings."
But I guess that's a shared Mormon belief, any way...since Mormonism teaches UNNAMED MULTIPLE "omniscient...sentient beings" exist -- unlike Christianity.
This simply shows that Mormonism has more in common with other religions than Christianity...
"bigots"
I guess this shows, Reno, that you're not satisfied with the long laundry list of name-calling toward Christians rung up by Mormon leaders...why, you just had to add to the list...
Oh, Delacoert just posted a thread today... Quotations from Mormon Leaders on the Christian Faith...
Don't want to click the above & go to that thread?...Here. Here's a short list of "Names" from those quotations cited in that thread...all offered up by those "nice" Mormons:
church of the devil (Book of Mormon)
apostates,
pagans,
worshipers of a god of our creation,
heathens (B. Young)
ignorant of salvation (B. Young; J. Taylor)
devil-worshipers (B. Young)
Babylon
bound for the same place as the devil & demons
anti-christ apostates (McConkie)
controlled by evil spirits (McConkie)
