Alex, regarding works, Acts 26:20 says
"that they should repent and turn to God, do/pracrice/perform (prasso) works/deeds (ergon) meet/apporved (axios) for repentance".
Faith alone is insufficient. No works, no repentance. No repenatnce, no salvation. Simple.

This particular one is a sermon to the unconverted. In the Protestant mindset, once the Grand Getting Saved occurs, the gospel ceases to matter.

Good works and repentance are the evidence of a new birth by the Holy Spirit, not a requirement for that rebirth.
God accomplishes our salvation; not us.
