Rom 11:22 isn't speaking about individual salvation, it is speaking of the fact that the Gentiles are now grafted into the salvation of Abraham-by faith without works (Rom.4) which is a stumblingstone to the Jew (Rom 9:30-33)

I think any way you want to look at this passage it is clear you can be cut off.

The Catholic perspective is he( Paul)is talking about old mosaic law and sacrifice as he was writing the epistles. Meaning during his era the Hebrews were still sacrificing with works. A good book is James Akin’s “The Salvation Controversy”.
