BRUSSELS — Police raided the headquarters of the Belgian Catholic Church on Thursday following fresh accusations of child sex abuse involving priests.
"Within the context of a recent investigation, prosecutors have been informed of accusations denouncing abuse of minors committed by a certain number of Church figures," a spokesman for Brussels prosecutors told AFP.
About 30 officers and investigators sealed off the palace of the archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels "in order to establish if these accusations are backed up or not," said Jean-Marc Meilleur, without giving any more details.
Some 450 submissions to a special commission set up to examine complaints received of child abuse in the past and housed in the archdiocese premises were taken by officers.
Dutch-language daily De Standaard reported that authorities also wanted to ensure that all accusations received by Catholic leaders in the country had been transmitted to the independent body.
The man who led Belgium's Catholic Church for two decades until the turn of the year, Godfried Danneels, was himself "escorted" to the site by investigators, private Flemish TV channel VTM reported.

So which is it? Do Catholics obey the Pope like robots, unable to think for themselves, or does each Catholic who owns a website speak infallibly? I'm confused.
The irony is that the hyper-Calvinists tend to believe that they are able to intrepret Scripture infallibly.
Amazingly they also seem to think that their infallibility releases them from any obligation to do what Jesus Christ instructed in the Gospels and they also seem to think it gives them a license to lie at will.

Disintegration, rather. My LCMS friends have had nothing but disdain for the ELCA church for as long as I remember. The numbers of self described Lutherans have shrunk visibly even over the last decade.
The sad part is that the orthodox Lutherans have very few places to go. They aren't Calvinists, so that's out. Anglicanism/Episcopalianism in the United States is in worse shape than Lutheranism. And Lutherans are typically adverse to the thought of becoming Catholics. I wonder how many of them are looking at the Orthodox Church.
I know two that have swum the Tiber; but from what I understand, far more are heading east. That trickle may become a flood as things get worse.
Why would there by? The OPC and the SBC and the Anglicans and the Lutherans don't publish world-wide encyclicals calling for a "global authority" to rule over the U.S.'s politics, immigration policies, taxation, economics, food distribution, defense and social programs, like Ratzinger did.
We should probably engage in a little lesson about timelines here. BXVI could not possibly have written a pontifical encyclical before he became Pope. Therefore, any lengthy protests of him becoming Pope were held before he wrote them. Therefore your point is, well, pointless. Do you have anything else?

And the even more interesting thing is that the crowd protesting the Pope were overwhelmingly either anti Christian leftists without jobs, or nominally Christian anti Catholics with a variable number of teeth. All joined together in perfect harmony.

Declining membership? Nonsense. The number of Catholics in the world is rising and is second only to the Muslims. The number of Calvinism believers is less than 1% of what it was 100 years ago, and probably much smaller than that.
RC churches and schools closing. And opening. Serving an increasing number of Catholics. How many OPC churches (by percentage) have closed in the last 25 years? How many OPC schools are there and how many have closed by percentage?
If you play the numbers game, the OPC is going to lose, having not updated their annual meeting on the website in the last five years, and not publishing their decling membership numbers either. Which phone booth is the next year’s meeting going to be held in?
True Christianity is true Christianity. My soul is glad for them.

It is absolutely a wonder that people who post such nonsense that this is a Catholic site do so without an iota of shame or embarassment. Perhaps it is because their names are written before time as predestined for salvation and therefore their hubris knows no bounds. And how do they know it? Perhaps via the same route that this woman knows what she knows...

Depraved? Not sure about that. A homosexual control freak and sadist, sure. But depraved? Just because he caused the misery and death of the formerly good and cheerful burghers of Geneva does not make him depraved. Just because he had people killed and tortured when they spoke ill of him does not make him depraved. Just because he was able to reduce the populace of Geneva to grey serfdom in a manner not seen until the Russians reduced the East Germans to a grey and hopeless morass over four decades does not make him depraved.
A hideous soul destroying and bloodthirsty monster, sure, but not depraved...
