And the thief on the cross did exactly what after he put his faith in Christ?
If we have to add anything to the death of Christ, then the death of Christ wasn't good enough. If the death of Christ isn't enough to satisfy God's wrath against sin, how can our righteous deeds, which are as filthy rags in His sight?
When one adds anything to Christ's death, that's the thing that one says confers salvation. It's saying that Christ's death isn't good enough and whatever one adds is what one is putting their trust in for salvation.

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.
And the thief on the cross did exactly what after he put his faith in Christ?
I guess you haven't heard of the HALLOWED !!!!TRADITION!!!! of the beginnings of the STATIONS OF THE WHITE HANKY.
Magnificent Magical Mary descended in a UFO looking much like a huge white hanky the size of an average back yard. The shining rays of white were near blinding.
She gave the thief on the cross a rosary and insisted he pray through it 3 times just to be sure his exhausted flesh got some exercise.
Then she exited off the large white hanky and magically took the thief from the cross and literally drug him through all the STATIONS OF THE CROSS insisting that he genuflect and prostrate himself at each one. Given his tortured and exhausted state, the prostrating himself was no problem. However, Mary had to pick him up by the scruff of his neck each time and forcefully drag him to the next STATION.
The experience was so moving, hastening his death dramatically, for the thief, that the thief insisted that Mary establish also THE STATIONS OF THE WHITE HANKY in memory of him and her wonderful efforts to insure he had SALVIVIC WORKS to his credit before he expired.
/Sat
He died and went to heaven. St. Dismas did all his righteous work prior to putting his faith in Christ; he rebuked the guilty, defended the innocent and repented for his sin:
39 And one of those robbers who were hanged, blasphemed him, saying: If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering, rebuked him, saying: Neither dost thou fear God, seeing thou art condemned under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man hath done no evil. 42 And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom.(Luke 23)
This is a good example of faith following good works.
