.- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peters Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.
The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth, proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.
The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.
Therefore, he continued, priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.
Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the Act of Love, was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and continues to fuel our dialogue with God.
The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.
The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a day of priestly holiness, but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.
Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests. These were inspired only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.
So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart, he exclaimed.
The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.
lolol. Yep. Kinda like that.
That's easy...If they don't line up with scripture, dump 'em...
How do you know your church fathers weren't booted out of the church by the Apostles??? The Apostle Paul warned that even then there were false teachers perverting the words of God...What proof do you have that your church fathers were not those false teachers...
We all already know that your religion has forged some of the writings of your church fathers to deceive the brethren...
Which should I choose? The Church created by Jesus Christ and commissioned by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost that has paid out a couple of billion dollars for it's long standing moral rot.
Who could answer this question??? Which words in the previous sentence do not fit???
Apparently God told the Apostles to pass this on to your church fathers but totally neglected to tell the Apostles to mention this in the scriptures...
If I threw my bible away, or had never even seen one, I could fit right in to the Mormon religion, the Izlamaniac religion or the Catholic religion...But since I do own and study a bible, I couldn't possibly join any of those religions...
Amen, Amen and Amen...
Really? So you now a Universalist Mark?
Matthew 7: 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, 10 but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?' 23 Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. 11 Depart from me, you evildoers.'
This was written for people that believe in a universal salvation or a salvation by works
This guy thought he was saved.. he even did good works in the name of Jesus..BUT Jesus NEVER knew Him..
He did not know Him once and then forget him, or change His mind about saving him , He NEVER KNEW HIM.All those good works meant nothing ..they were just filthy rags to God
Eph 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Again mark, WHO was the WE ? The saved,, those were the letter was written to the church
Double talk indeed! I’ve been hoping someone would take this up. My mouth dropped open when I read, “We are not saved by works alone or by faith alone.”. So what is being said here, and what most if not all of the RCs on this forum say, is that it is both faith AND works that save.

“We are not saved by works alone or by faith alone.”
That sounds just like a passage out of the BOM (see below), works based salvation! I always ask them the same question I ask everyone that believes in a works based salvation. What did you do to get clean and do you repent for your rightious deeds (good works)? Isa. 64:6.
“2 Nephi 25:23 For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.”
“After all we can do”, works! If that’s true, why do we need Jesus?
I don’t think most people understand the major implications of grace and salvation and what God did for us. What God did is what man couldn’t or can’t do to save themselves!
There are also people that boast about doing something for salvation Eph. 2:9 is very clear, but Eph. 1:4 says that I was chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world! I wasn’t there to make a decision about my salvation before the foundation of the world and no one else was either!
I repeat NL... Some of the church Fathers had heresies in their writings and the RC church just picked and chose what would support their doctrine..the ECF were not infallible, building a church on their beliefs is building it on sand instead of infallible word of God
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
And you know this how?
Mat 13 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth
This may have been the same group that laid down Palm branches and shouted Hosannah one day and later shouted crucify Him.
We only know what scripture tells us NL..all the rest is speculation
You and your cohorts are repeating a circular argument in response to a very clear question. I asked how you protected against eisegesis in interpretation of scripture when outright rejecting anything other than scripture as a source of information and the response has been that you use your interpretation of scripture as the standard.
In summary Protestants believe that eisegesis is perfectly acceptable depending on whose ideas are embedded in the interpretations. Protestants believe 100% of the Revealed Word of God is contained in post-reformation Scripture (we all agree Scripture was redacted when even eisegesis didn't solve the logical and theological problems) and that Scripture means exactly what individual Protestants and individual Protestants alone believe it does. So unlike or just like the "RC" (there you go using a term that has been identified as insensitive numerous time) Protestants just pick and choose not only which writings or "sermons" support their preconceived belief system but which books of actual Scripture should be rejected too.
If I had a belief system that I had to make such convoluted logical twists to explain and defend I would keep my mouth shut.
That’s a tough one since “we’re all sinners” is the excuse which makes no distinction between an instance of sin and the practice of sin. Singing a song isn’t the practice of singing so to speak.
I think adding an “or” just before the “that” would do it.
but..
lololololololol! don't you see the irony in that statement...I am tearing up here, lol!
Do you deny that the early church fathers often held heretical beliefs or beliefs that were close to protestant beliefs ?
Good post..
The Truth has never been immune from attack.
Thanks, Dr E.

INDEED!
