Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

We have not come up with a Queen of heaven eternal virgin or an assumption or prayer to saints..whole cloth doctrine

We understand that Protestants despise Holy Tradition.

But we also know they embrace their own traditions of men e.g. sola scriptura, sola fide, predestination to hell, etc. Granted, not all noodles on the spaghetti farm believe in each of these small "t" traditions. The result is all the division within Protestantism.

This just gets stranger and stranger. Now hospitals are the work of the “devil”. Here’s another tradition you can mark down for Protestantism.

They and the rail against an imaginary enemy

If we did not have to contribute anything ourselves, we all would be saved no matter what we do. But that is not what the gospel teaches.

It appears that you completely misunderstand the Sacrifice on the Cross as well as the Gospel of the Grace of God...

Jesus died on the Cross because there is nothing we could do to provide the sacrifice necessary for Salvation...He paid our price; all of it...Jesus became sin, for us...Jesus gave us His righteousness, because we couldn't produce or provide any ourselves...We are incapable...

Jesus gave this free gift to the Gentiles, the pagans to make His people Israel jealous...

The most highly Protestant countries are the most prosperous in the world.

The most highly Catholic countries are among the most impoverished.

Jesus condemned the tradition of men set up by religious rulers while He was here.

What on earth could make anyone think that He’d then turn around and establish an organization that would mimic that very thing He just got done condemning?

It boggles the mind how brainwashed Catholics are that they can justify such contradictions.

RN: the council of Jerusalem and [the Epistle to G]alatians condemns [sic] Judaizers

A: The Chruch condemned them, yet a new breed of these found a home among the Evangelicals in 20c.

Great to see an agreement on something.

I realize it is difficult to then look at the church where your loyalty lies and see all that it does to mimic Judaism, but the evidence is right there in front of you. The best place to look is your Cross, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior is still on it.

I don't get the comment about Born Again Christians can you elaborate how they are Judaizers. I don't see them following a pattern of never ending sacrifice for sins to make up for the insufficiency of the previous sacrament.

You can read here about the Protestant churches liberalizing their view on abortion - not individuals, but the churches themselves.

It is that glass house thing again...Do you know Catholics have the highest number of abortions than any religious group? The Alan Guttmacher Institute, it was reported that Catholic women have an abortion rate 29 percent higher than Protestants.

nuns back abortion

Still worshipping Paul, I see.

2 Peter 3:14-16

So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

So both faith and their righteous works saved them. He always mentions both.

I'm just glancing at Hebrews 11. What works did Enoch do? What works did Sarah do?

From his commentary on II Corinthians 8:15, Calvin writes,

"...God has enjoined upon us frugality and temperance, and has forbidden, that anyone should go to excess, taking advantage of his abundance. Let those, then, that have riches, whether they have been left by inheritance, or procured by industry and efforts, consider that their abundance was not intended to be laid out in intemperance or excess, but in relieving the necessities of the brethren. (297)...

There's the key word. Brethren. Earlier posts on this thread by one of your brethren tried to convince us that brethren does not include the "least of these", i.e. the needy. So the comment by stfassisi "so they think the poor hungry and meek lack the grace of God" is on the mark.

LOLOL. Luther married a nun, Katharina, who gave him six children and they lived happily ever after.

Scripture never saved anyone.

Jhn 5:39 — Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Jhn 5:46 — For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

2Pe 1:19 — We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Judith faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God

You missed the point. Yes, there are sinful Catholics in the Church who go against Church teaching. But there are whole Churches in Protestantism liberalizing their doctrine and leading the sheep away. That's the difference and why it isn't "that glass house thing again". The glass house thing was the original poster going on about the Church when your own churches are a mess.

lol. Calvin is saying exactly the opposite of what you wrote.

It's the habitual pattern of the RC apologist to say the words do not mean what they say and they say what they do not mean.

Thank God for the printed word and eyes to see.

Heard of sheep without a shepherd?

My FIL came to live with us after a stroke. He started going to church with us after a while. He was EO at the time. On the ride home from church one Sunday he commented how someone has to be in charge, meaning your Pope. My young son commented without missing a beat,

"Shouldn't that be Jesus?"

Praise God before my FIL died he became a Born Again Christian.

I'll stick with my young son's answer.
