.- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peters Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.
The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth, proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.
The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.
Therefore, he continued, priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.
Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the Act of Love, was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and continues to fuel our dialogue with God.
The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.
The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a day of priestly holiness, but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.
Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests. These were inspired only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.
So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart, he exclaimed.
The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.
You post the pictures, Mark. You make smarmy comparisons. You call people names.
You make this personal, time and again.
Try not to.
NICE THAT SOMEONE else noticed.
Thx.
THX THX.
WHAT WERE YOU QUOTING?
INDEED.
SIGH.
You shouldn't have spent more time studying when you were a Catholic. Catechism of the Catholic Church
Thank God protestants have the sure revelation of the scriptures as their authority..
Welcome to the spagetti farm of Protestantism, each denomination splitting from the other over their own interpretations.
Here's the Presbyterian farm:
One that keeps them from getting pinned down and shown to be contradictory and one that is designed to keep the opponents off balance because you can always fall back on *That's not what the Catholic Church REALLY teaches*, without having to tell what it DOES really teach, because nobody really knows.
Catholics who attend mass weekly, unlike the huge numbers of liberal protestants, do not vote for CINOS, do not contribute to CCHD, do not support abortion under any circumstances, do not support gay marriage, do not support the use of embryonic stem cells, and do not vote for those who do.
I suspect you already knew that, but could not resist the calumny.
ROFLOL!!!!
And all in such a short time!!!
You sourced http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc.htm
But that’s not vatican.va, the only “official” source for information about what the Catholic Church *really* teaches.
And if you don’t like that, take it up with your fellow Catholics because I’m just telling you what they tell me.
UNMITIGATED FALSEHOOD; BEARING FALSE WITNESS; OUTRAGEOUSLY ABSURD TO IRRATIONAL ASSERTIONS; ETC.
Read the links here and you soon will find that there's no absurdity in the statement. The sad truth is there for all to see.
You’re a bit behind the times about the Catholic Church and its alleged relation to Scripture.
According to your Catholic compatriots, the Bible was written by the *church fathers* and since all the authors of the NT are considered Roman Catholic by default, therefore, the Catholic Church wrote the Bible.
Whats with obsession with rubber?
Christ was speaking TO THE JEWS. It is in the Dispensation of the Law.
Paul was speaking TO THE JEWS. About the Dispensation of the LAW. He is comparing the Dispensation of the Law and the Dispensation of Grace. Jew and Gentile. Israel having the blessings under the Law, but warning against pride. The blessings of Gentiles in the Dispensation of Grace but the warning against pride. Admonishing Christians against pride and idolatry as had befallen Israel.
The Jews ate the same spiritual meat, and drank the same spiritual drink: for the drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.(1 Corinthians10: 3,4). Again, under the Law.
We are not under the Law. We are in the Dispensation of the Grace of God.
MOST FITTINGLY AND PROPERLY ADDRESSED
to your Roman Catholic et al cohorts—particularly folks of the rabid clique variety.
It’s rather distressing the way the Vatican Institution as represented hereon keeps shoving such elastic, rubbery, mangled junk in Proddys’ et al’s faces.
Dreary horrific stuff, really.
IT WOULD BE A WONDEROUS RELIEF TO NEVER SEE ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF IT FROM THE VATICAN RUBBER/ELASTIC/MANGLED FACTORY AND RUBBER/ELASTIC/MANGLED LIBRARY.
lol. Your post shows no understanding of John Calvin.
From his commentary on II Corinthians 8:15, Calvin writes,
"...God has enjoined upon us frugality and temperance, and has forbidden, that anyone should go to excess, taking advantage of his abundance. Let those, then, that have riches, whether they have been left by inheritance, or procured by industry and efforts, consider that their abundance was not intended to be laid out in intemperance or excess, but in relieving the necessities of the brethren. (297)...
Calvin, like Paul and Peter and John and Luke knew that the sermon on the mount was not a prescription for salvation, but a description of the Christian life, once renewed by the Holy Spirit to accomplish the good works of Christ within them.
Very clever. You must not be the average Protestant.
the only official source for information about what the Catholic Church *really* teaches.
The Catechism is put out by the Church. It shows up on numerous sites, but is the same document.
Since it appears to bother you so much, feel free to access the same document here Catechism of the Catholic Church. I hope having it at your "official" source makes you feel better.
That post does not make a lick of sense. Please try again.
The only "alleging" is yours.
since all the authors of the NT are considered Roman Catholic by default
No they aren't.
Like the Protestants the Catholic Church burned to death, or tortured to death in the Inquisition?
People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
The Roman Catholic Church history is an abomination and a stain on the history of Christianity. The corruption that existed in the papacy for so long, the sale of indulgences, the suppression of knowledge because it contradicted church teaching (Galileo for example), just to mention a few....
The only reason it has changed is because of the Reformation. As people actually began to read and understand the clear teachings of Scripture, they saw what a farce the RCC had put up and were leaving it.
It forced the RCC to make changes in itself that would NEVER have happened otherwise.
And to try to claim that an organization with that kind of history is what Christ established on earth to represent Himself is to spit in Christ’s face. Jesus would NEVER condone the behavior that ran rampant in the Roman Catholic Church throughout most of its history. He would never condone that kind of sin and deception.
It's sad.
