.- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peters Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.
The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth, proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.
The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.
Therefore, he continued, priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.
Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the Act of Love, was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and continues to fuel our dialogue with God.
The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.
The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a day of priestly holiness, but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.
Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests. These were inspired only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.
So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart, he exclaimed.
The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.
Thanks for this, Quix.

Hello ??? Anybody besides Quix listening
???????????????????????
THE SOUL THAT GETS SAVED MAY BE YOUR OWN.
Excellent. It bears repeating.
It isn't until Catholics get to that point that they are willing to be realistic about the RCC and then they eventually leave it.
It's Christ alone.
HIMSELF
by A. B. Simpson
Once it was the blessing, Now it is the Lord;
Once it was the feeling, Now it is His Word.
Once His gifts I wanted, Now the Giver own;
Once I sought for healing, Now Himself alone.
Once 'twas painful trying, Now 'tis perfect trust;
Once a half salvation, Now the uttermost.
Once 'twas ceaseless holding, Now He holds me fast;
Once 'twas constant drifting, Now my anchor's cast.
Once 'twas busy planning, Now 'tis trustful prayer;
Once 'twas anxious caring, Now He has the care.
Once 'twas what I wanted, Now what Jesus says;
Once 'twas constant asking, Now 'tis ceaseless praise.
Once it was my working, His it hence shall be;
Once I tried to use Him, Now He uses me.
Once the power I wanted, Now the Mighty One;
Once for self I labored, Now for Him alone.
Once I hoped in Jesus, Now I know He's mine;
Once my lamps were dying, Now they brightly shine.
Once for death I waited, Now His coming hail;
And my hopes are anchored, Safe within the vail.
Are not Pauls words inspired by the Holy Spirit? Should they be removed from the canon?Are some words more inspired than others? Just how does one decide that?
Catholics view salvation as a reward.. not a gift.. you are rewarded for doing your best.. God owes you that . They make God the debtor of men
You know Quix, the hardest thing a man can do is not to be good and earn heaven, the hardest thing a man can do is to understand that you are not the captain of your own ship.. the course was determined by another.. Men do not like having a sovereign God..
Those of you who try to earn God's approval by obeying his laws have been cut off from Christ. You have fallen out of God's favor.Gal 5::4
Do you really want to talk about the ECF's ? I would be cautious in having faith in their words if I was catholic..1) their work is not infallible..2) they often disagreed with each other..3) they sometimes had heresies in their writing
They often agree more with Protestant doctrine than Catholic ...
The only way one can come away assured in Roman doctrine from them is if one reads the "official" Roman rendering where they have picked the words to support their doctrine ... read them from their original sources RB, not Roman web sites
They have a convoluted salvation.. they have a corporate salvation where one is saved by the church ROME, as opposed to the saved making up the church .When one is taught that then the church is ROME and one belongs to the church..One is not the church , then the church in effect is God ..
Look at the definition ..it is not Christ that saves you..it is the church and her traditions and her sacraments ...
You are so right..The word protestant comes from the word protest.. we were called protestants because our faith fathers protested the false and man centered teachings of Rome.
Protestants care about the souls of Catholics and so spend time hoping that maybe ONE reader would be driven to the scriptures.. Jesus promises us that in them we have life.. faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God ... The great commission is not to bring men to the church, it is to bring the gospel to men..
LOL
I wouldn't take seriously any pronouncements regarding the content or meaning of the Catechism from one who only has a superficial familiarity with it at best. There are about a dozen other anti-Catholics who frequent these Catholic threads whose pronouncements on the Catechism could be bested by a chimp with a bong and a Ouija board.
AMEN, William!
Yhis is what MarySecretary used to say about her ex-RC husband. He never knew what peace there was to be had in this life until he left Rome and became a lively stone who rested in Christ's sacrifice alone on his behalf.
My ex-RC husband, too.
"I never knew...and then I did. Thank God."
"I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." -- Galatians 2:20
I believe that the council of Jerusalem and galatians condemns Judaizers...The Old Covenant belongs to the Jews..the New Covenant is with the saved, be they jew or gentile.. ...God destroyed the temple and the priesthood ...no more sacrifices , no more vestments.. no more altars ....
Jesus indeed fulfilled the OT, a church does not.. We are to seek Christ and kneel before the Savior.. Not the pope or bishops ...One day every knee will bow and tongue profess that Jesus is Lord..not a man made church or man made pope.. as Peter said..Stand up , I am just a man like you
There is no priesthood, no papacy , no apostolic succession in the NT church as found in the scriptures.. it is all made up by the whims of men..
Christ was the last priest, He was the last sacrifice.. he is the rock the church is built on .. Solus Christus or ("Christ alone" or "through Christ alone"), Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone")
THIS is what I've been waiting to be admitted by Catholics.
For what purpose? It is not a new concept. Judaism Fulfilled
Anyone who isn't made tremendously uncomfortable when those blasphemous are given to a simple Jewish girl should "examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith."
Or not.
AMEN!
Not an "alter Christus" in sight. Thank God.
ALREADY SECURE IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS.
Paul repeatedly articulates in HEBREWS that it was the OT saints' FAITH which saved them. Certainly their obedient actions flowed OUT OF their faith.
Paul's whole point is to contrast FAITH IN GOD on the part of the Old Testament saints as entirely different from the pagan religions' requirement of works to earn pagan salvation--similar--evidently, to the pagan requirements of the Vatican paganism.
LOL LOL..like the attempted rebuttal on this thread that there is a new testament priesthood..verified how? Why from Roman sources , changing the CLEAR meaning of the greek words to suit their purposes..
What kind of counselor is that the kind that hasnt studied grammar?
One that paid attention in counseling classes :)

"On the other hand, the one word that will impede your ability to persuade is "but." "But" negates everything you said before it. We all know the drill, "I love you, but "or "I want to help, but ." The word "but" puts the brake on persuasion. Practice your vocabulary and use the word "and" in your persuasive communication instead of "but." Another simple change is to use the word "can" instead of "could." For example, say "Can you carry this for me?" instead of "Could you carry this for me?" Similarly, it is better to use "will" than "would" and better to use "try" than "do."" link
"By not using the specific word "but," we can prevent triggering instant negative responses in the other person. The solution is to replace the word "but" with the word "and" in such a way that you can respond truthfully without sounding like you're disagreeing or making them feel wrong." Link
"My English instructor once told me that the use of the word "but" completely negates every point or conviction that was written previously. Hence, I suppose we can only pay attention to anything that comes after the word "but" as being true and real and honest but perhaps a person who is trying to create a balance of many different interests would use it to show that they know another point of view exists and still maintain their own."link
It verifies no such thing. As a matter of fact, it contradicts what you claimed. It says salvation comes from God alone.
BUT.....
Christ is the head of the Church and the Church is his Body. The Church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth, and helps bring life to our faith as teacher of those truths.
Pillars are only good for one thing..to hold something up ...what is the pillars of the church to hold up ? The TRUTH... What is the Truth? Jesus said this " "My word is truth." "If you hold onto my words, you are my disciples, and you shall know the truth and the truth will make you free.""
So the job of the pillars is to uphold the truth,, The word of God..
This is not saying the church "is truth" as catholics like to propose...
Maybe you need to address that to Jesus since it was his quote. I dont think He automatically considers those in need, i.e. the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the naked, the sick, and those in prison to be children of satan. Only a gross twisting on Scripture could arrive at that conclusion.
Only a tragic misreading of scripture thinks the tares are brothers
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12...
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
2Cr 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
1Jo 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Of the unsaved Christ says this
39They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 40But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. 42Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.(John 8)
I wasn’t aware Roman Catholics thought:
“The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog’s back.”
was part of their rubber ‘Bible.’
It’s incredible the shocking things one learns about Roman Catholocism on FR!
I didn’t THINK you were in
MY
High School typing class.
NOPE. That would be Roman Catholocism.
