Except *I* haven't been fooled. I've (and others on FR) been saying for years that the declining birthrates are going to cause massive problems as the payer/recipient ratio for entitlements drops.

Not just economic, either. Europe has attempted to counter its declining birthrates through immigration. Which for them involved predominantly Muslim countries. It's the reason why the #2 name for baby boys in the UK is some derivation of "Mohammed". There's going to be a very bad cascading effect, which has already begun (see "Malmo" for instance), as these new immigrants to Europe arrive not to assimilate into their new societies, but seek to impose their culture (read: Sharia) upon them.

The US will probably need to do so too, eventually. We're lucky though, in that our "backfill" immigration will come mainly from the Roman Catholic societies of Central and South America.

I’m not sure we’ll need to backfill all that much. I saw some stats recently (can’t put my hand on them) that indicate that the birthrate in the U.S. seems to be ticking up a bit. If we actually put sane immigration and taxation policies for families in place, we’ll be poised to do very well.

Countries like Russia are probably beyond the tipping point.
