John Barnes the third did this on November 11 1967, Kontom Province, Dak To. During a battle lasting 8 hrs Charlie Company 1/503rd was battling for their lives in a horse shoe ambush by a battalion strenght NVA unit. While the fighting raged John was hammering away with his M-60 after only a few mins the NVA concentrated fire on him and knocked him off his weapon, taken back to the crowded aid station John was being treated by medics. As the medics turned to help other wounded an NVA grenade landed in the middle of the aid area with out hesitation John jumped over and laid his body on top of the grenade. It blew up and John was alive for a few seconds.. He died there with his friends and comerades. John Was awarded the Medal Of Honor. But his reward will come with his meeting jesus..
