Vandals ransacked a Catholic Church in Maywood on Monday in an incident that police are classifying as a hate crime.
The vandals broke into the Santa Rosa de Lima Church, where they defecated in an auditorium, scrawled "666" in the kitchen and stuck a knife in a painting of the Virgin Mary, the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department said.
"The vandalism was of a heinous nature, and in fact, consistent with a hate crime," the department said in a news release.

Can’t find photos that were on FOX News just now, but the “defecation” was unreal. It looked like a dog park gone wild ...

But, but...this is a Christian church?
Can't be a "hate crime", then, by definition.
Or did I miss something?

Almost every crime is a hate crime. I never heard of someone committing a crime because the criminal liked the victim.

Can't be a "hate crime", then, by definition. Actually, it's a Catholic Church...so that makes this redecorating OK...highly encouraged, even.

Auto theft is a crime that isn't
necessarily directly toward hating or disliking the victim.

Soon...coming to a church near you. Thanks, obama, for creating a climate of love and tolerance.

They were probably just trying to keep people from idolizing Mary.

"The vandals broke into the Santa Rosa de Lima Church, where they defecated in an auditorium, scrawled "666" in the kitchen and stuck a knife in a painting of the Virgin Mary, the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department said." I can't imagine what it would be like to stand before Jesus Christ at the moment of my death having had done this to to an image of His beloved mother. If this isn't a satanic attack then nothing is.

shall I start pinging you to the naughty naughty teacher threads????

They were probably just trying to keep people from idolizing Mary. Exactly. So they should be, therefore, praised.

"Auto theft is a crime that isn't necessarily directly toward hating or disliking the victim." Perhaps, but there are few acts of violence or destruction of property done by people who don't hate their victims. I think the point the other poster made, if I may speak for them, is that many crimes are committed through hatred for the victim, therefore "hate crimes" are redundant, and are nothing but big gummint way of protecting some people more than others by hanging a second crime, "hate", around the necks of the perpetrator in a court of law. Who ever hurt another human being, or destroyed their property, through an act of love?

Think of the souls they saved.
