Which roots? The modern Baptist Church is an amalgam of several different strands of thought and theology.

There is no such thing as THE modern Baptist CHURCH. There are many Baptist churchES. It isn't an "amalgam." Each church is its own autonomous unit. Baptist churches may choose to affiliate with one another for the purpose of sponsoring missions or for common fellowship. But there is no "holy see" that oversees a Monster-church.

To speak of "the modern Baptist church" is to speak of a non-existent entity.

Point taken. I didn’t express myself clearly. The opinions, thoughts and theology of modern Baptists are an amalgamation of many different strands of thought and theology, which are readily apparent as there is NO central control over individual churches. Baptist churches vary in their practices and theology depending on their geographical location, history and the understanding of scripture that God gives them. HOWEVER - they are more similar than different. They all believe in certain things, but there has to be roots to those beliefs. They don’t just appear fully formed.
