I don’t know how to tell ya this, but the words fair, white, dark, black, etc all used to mean something else in old fashioned british english. Here’s a hint, it had NOTHING to do with race. Fair meant fine or unblemished. white meant good or godly. dark and black meant ungodly or sinister.

Such gems as:"darkness of their skins" "skins of the Laminates were dark"
