We dont know how badly Joey Smith abused Emma...and the recorded history is bad enough...

The death threats in D&C 132 are shocking... what did he do to her when they were alone ???

and the way he deliberately had sex with young girls right in her own house...

Also he had to know Joey Smith had tried to force himself on William Law’s wife...

Mrs Law was a friend of Emma’s..Relief Society sorority friends also...

plus the town of Nauvoo knew about it...and William Law had broadcasted the incident abroad...

Was it a betrayal of her husband, or revenge or concern for his well being ???

Joey Smith certainly had a long prison sentence coming to him...”unlawful habitation” as adultery and bigamy was called was a jailable offense..and Joey smith had at least 40 counts of that against him...

After 20 years of abuse and humiliation at the hands of Joey Smith, Emma can hardly be blamed if she called her husband back so that he would finally be jailed and punished for his many crimes...

But whether or not she intended him to die, is debatable...

However it might have been a case of self preservation...

After all Joey Smith was already calling out the Danites, his “Avenging Angels” to murder those who disagreed with him...

Why not Emma herself ??? I imagine Emma lived in fear of her life for years...

Had there been a final showdown with Emma, before Joey Smith got on his horse and absconded from the law ???
