This is why the Catholic Church doesn’t want Catholics to read the Word for themselves, ...You do know that Bible study is, as we say, "indulgenced," right? That is, the Vatican declares spiritual benefits accrue to those who read the Bible for half an hour.
Mind you, since we all 'know' that Church doesn't want us to read the Bible, I guess this indulgence must be viewed as an oversight, right?

The granting of indulgences, given the history of the practice, would not be something I would claim benefits anyone.
