No where in scripture does anyone give authority to pray specifically to Jesus or the Holy Spirit but it does to to the Father and both Jesus and the Holy Spirit are sent to do the will of the Father. “Nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus”.

I thought this was pretty close:

John 14:9-14 : 9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

There is no me in the Greek in verse 14. It is translated, "If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."

The import of the discussion is Jesus is our entre to the Father for the Father's glory and in verse 16 it is Christ who is praying for the sending of the Holy Spirit.

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Dunno which translation you use, but here's what I have:

Joh 14:14

(ASV) If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.

(ESV) If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

(ISV) If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it."

(KJV) If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

(MKJV) If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

(e-Sword: Compare)

I tend to rely upon the King James as authoritative, so I question whether the "me" is there at all...

I would only submit this to you: If we are free to pray any old way we want to, why the construct of the priesthood and it's ultimate culmination in Christ?

As I said, I am content to submit myself before the Lord in the way that He provided... It seems that is what He did it for.
