GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

If “sola scriptura” was mentioned in Scripture you would have a point, but “sola scriptura” is actually a 16th century man-made invention.

Actually Wag many of the ECF were sola scriptura in practice.

Wag what is the measuring rod you personally use to know if a teaching or tradition is true?

I strongly suspect that this is one of the many things that we are not meant to know or understand in advance.

I know sometimes words seem harsh, but at the core most of the Protestants that post have a concern for the eternity of Catholics..

There is a contingent of anti-Catholics who are OBSESSED with the eternal destination of Catholics, and who are more downright offensive than harsh.

I cannot believe that anyone would not understand that.

The concern is misguided and based upon a modern religion and thought which protestantism is founded in that represents nothing close to historical Christianity in many ways

There is no core of protestantism,if there was you would be united in your beliefs and have dogmas that are your own

The things protestants get right were learned from the Catholic Church

Evidently.

He has seemed to do that in a lot of places in His Word! LOL.

Some He seems to delight in us to dig out, discover.

Many, to realize only after the fact.

“If that’s all it is, then how can Paul say that to profane it is to be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord?”

Please post the scripture you are referring to here and in it’s context.

“Also, please explain to me why Christ would replace one set of symbols (the old covenant) with a new set of symbols?”

What symbols are being replaced or not replaced? Please post the relevant scripture.

“Well, that’s pretty easy, isn’t it? He’s God. God does neat stuff like causing his glorified, resurrected human nature to pass through doors, and causing it to be in more than one place at the same time.”

Yep. God can do anything. Doesn’t mean he instituted a magical ceremony.

“Surely you can do better than a “village atheist” objection like that.”

If you think I am an atheist, you don’t know the meaning of the word.

That’s quite the truth.

And I believe it’s MOSTLY true the other way . . . though I was told quite harshly to go to . . . by someone I’d been as polite to as I knew how to be.

Sigh. None of us has ‘arrived,’ yet.

Thanks for your wise words.

WRONG.

Many folks of the Roman Catholic et al perspective DO put Mary in an inordinate place.

There’s plenty of proof on this thread.

We now have 466 posts and not a single sentence by any Roman Catholic et al asserting that they give their ALL to Jesus.

Yet, we have many dozens of sentences DEFENDING UNBiblical priority to Mary. Anyone who thinks THE FATHER is thrilled with those stats is greatly mistaken.

BTW, I’ve observed over the decades that God allows/performs miracles for folks called by His Name and sometimes even for unBelievers because of His Mercy about their ignorance or misguidedness.

He also performs miracles because of earnest faith even when part of the package that faith comes in is greatly flawed. The Scriptural law is: ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH, SO BE IT UNTO YOU. That can cover a LOT of territory—even amongst greatly misguided folks.

Certainly the Counterfeiter performs many wonders. I think he’s been at work most clearly in Fatima. I haven’t examined a lot of the other apparitions. I used to assume Fatima was as the Vatican propaganda outlined. It was not a big deal to me. However, with more historic info coming to light and closer exammination, I must accept that it was a satanic END TIMES related deception.

However, I wouldn’t doubt that many healings in centuries past and present were accomplished by FAITH IN GOD—as I outlined above.

NO WAY.

NOT BY A VERY LONG SHOT.

Actually, most of the things I’ve gotten right have been by God’s Word and Holy Spirit alone.

Certainly Oswald Chambers was also a great help.

Born again believers are united in all things related to salvation..

The problem is sf..you refuse to recognize that there is no unity of beliefs among modern Catholics..

Most are cafeteria catholics ...picking and choosing what they like.. Does that make Catholicism invalid?

Whom do you think gave St. Louis De Montfort the "powers" for miracles? If they did not come from Christ, then they came from Satan, right? And if so, why were all the miracles so outstandingly positive and good?

You bring up a very good point ,dear friend, because the devil can NOT produce a TRUE miracle-he can only produce signs wonders and illusions. A true miracle is something that is beyond the forces of nature-like turning the water to wine and multiplication of the loaves and fish etc..

Only God can suspend nature and provide true Miracles and do so using very Holy people as instruments as well.

Furthermore, the devil can not do anything that is good.

The late FR John Hardon explains miracles..

"In general a miracle is any effect perceptible by the senses, produced by God which surpasses the powers of nature. Immediately we must explain that there are three levels of natural laws that God can surpass and thus perform a miracle. There are the physical laws of visible nature. Thus the sudden healing of a fatal disease surpasses needless to say the powers of human physical nature. Indeed surpasses the powers of all physical nature. Walking on water is naturally impossible. The raising of a dead human being back to life exceeds all created power, and no one but God with His omnipotence can raise a dead person back to life. And just for the record, physical miracles are the lowest level of miraculous phenomena. ""

“What is a “Romeian”?”

People who follow and obey the man made doctrines of some sin-filled fallen men who have kept their center of operations in Rome since their founding.

I appreciate your candor in acknowledging that many have stated the Rome religion was invented centuries after the time of Christ and its invented history simply hijacked the names of some people living in Christ’s day, claiming after the fact that they were Romeians.

In the case of your example, it appears one of the people that was rejected from the Body of Christ for not being Christian wrote some papers that Rome later used to build the foundation of their new religion on.
