GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

Very, very, VERY few Roman Catholics et al hereon

bother

or manage,

to refute most of what I write to them.

Interesting, that.

They usually just avoid it all and resort to

ATTACKING THE MESSENGER.

We don't want you to bare it even if you can bearly type.
And being The Good Humor Ma'am you'll not Boris any Morris.

I know a fella that was lead out of temptation by lead,: He tried to steal a coon dog and about an ounce of lead through his rear wind screen ended the temptation but not the risk even if he did utter lots of religious sounding stuff as he ran.

I can't say if his car had Catholic metal in it but he sure learned not to meddle with Protestin’ coon dogs.

IIRC, there’s a statue of the goddes Diana in the Vatican. Hard to understand why.

I had never heard that.

The point I was getting at was these things evolve over time. The Mary worship didn't really get going until well after the Apostles were all dead.

Mary was called woman by Jesus.

Mary was called woman by Paul.

Mary was called suitable vessel by Ignatius.

Mary was called new Eve by Justin Martyr.

Mary was called advocate, intercessor, comforter by Iranaeus.

Mary was called mother of God by Origen.

All in the span of about 200 years. You see the dominant greco-roman pagan culture influencing Christian thought and practices. Now 1700 years later RC's don't think twice about bowing down and praying to Mary. In fact they have the expectation that their prayers will receive special consideration because they were channeled through Mary.

I think this all started with good intentions, but it's easy to see how the error dominates over time.

"An infallible and unmistakable sign by which we can distinguish a heretic, a man of false doctrine, an enemy of God, from one of God's true friends is that the heretic and the hardened sinner show nothing but contempt and indifference for our Lady. He endeavours by word and example, openly or insidiously - sometimes under specious pretexts - to belittle the love and veneration shown to her."

TREATISE ON TRUE DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN

St. Louis de Montfort

It's so obvious that Catholicism is about Mary, much as the Catholics try to deny it, it's stuff like this that proves it beyond any words they have to say.

Along with prayers like these.....

“PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

O blessed Virgin Mary, who can worthily repay thee thy just dues of praise and thanksgiving, thou who by the wondrous assent of thy will didst rescue a fallen world? What songs of praise can our weak human nature recite in thy honor, since it is by thy intervention alone that it has found
the way to restoration? Accept, then, such poor thanks as we have here to offer, though they be unequal to thy merits; and, receiving our vows, obtain by thy prayers the remission of our offenses. Carry thou our prayers within the sanctuary of the heavenly audience, and bring forth from it the antidote of our reconciliation. May the sins we bring before Almighty God through thee, become pardonable through thee; may what we ask for with sure confidence, through thee be granted. Take our offering, grant us our requests, obtain pardon for what we fear, for thou art the sole hope of sinners. Through thee we hope for the remission of our sins, and in thee, 0 blessed Lady, is our hope of reward. Holy Mary, succour the miserable, help the fainthearted, comfort the sorrowful, pray for thy people, plead for the clergy, intercede for all women consecrated to God; may all who keep thy holy commemoration feel now thy help and protection. Be thou ever ready to assist us when we pray, and bring back to us the answers to our prayers. Make it thy continual care to pray for the people of God, thou who, blessed by God, didst merit to bear the Redeemer of the world, who liveth and reigneth, world without end. Amen.
Saint Augustine

PETITION TO MARY

Most holy Virgin Immaculate, my Mother Mary, to thee who art the Mother of my Lord, the queen of the universe, the advocate, the hope, the refuge of sinners, I who am the most miserable of all sinners, have recourse this day. I venerate thee, great queen, and I thank thee for the many graces thou hast bestowed upon me even unto this day; in particular for having delivered me from the hell which I have so often deserved by my sins. I love thee, most dear Lady; and for the love I bear thee, I promise to serve thee willingly for ever and to do what I can to make thee loved by others also. I place in thee all my hopes for salvation; accept me as thy servant and shelter me under thy mantle, thou who art the Mother of mercy. And since thou art so powerful with God, deliver me from all temptations, or at least obtain for me the strength to overcome them until death. From thee I implore a true love for Jesus Christ. Through thee I hope to die a holy death. My dear Mother, by the love thou bearest to Almighty God, I pray thee to assist me always, but most of all at the last moment of my life. Forsake me not then, until thou shalt see me safe in heaven, there to bless thee and sing of thy mercies through all eternity. Such is my hope. Amen.
Saint Alphonsus Liguori “

It's interesting, isn't it, the Catholic mentality of *You don't understand Catholicism. If you really understood it, you;'d of course, be a Catholic.* Like we couldn't help ourselves.

It's beyond their comprehension that one can understand Catholicism and reject it anyway.

Free Republic is a conservative forum. However, conservatives while agreeing on political or ideological things often hold theological beliefs which sometimes are in direct opposition. The same is true on evolution/creation, civil war, PCs and even pit bulls.

The Religion Forum exists - not as a marketing tool for the various religious beliefs of the Freepers - but as a forum to discuss our differences and yes, to debate them.

Since a major "cause" of conservatism is Freedom of Religion and this form is pro-God, the religious debate will continue.

Any poster who cannot handle having his beliefs challenged, condemned or ridiculed should IGNORE "open" Religion Forum threads altogether and instead read and post to threads labeled "caucus" "ecumenical" "prayer" or "devotional."

The coon dog incident is true. In this part of the country good coon dogs are valued over good wives, there’s only so many good coon dogs available.

Quix posted a long list of all the things, apparently, Catholics believe is true of Mary, Tree of Life, Keeper of Hell, etc. etc. I suppose posting it makes Quix a “bigot”, yet so far, none of you have explained whether or not you or the Catholic church, all or some of you, believe that Mary is all those things. If any of you would step up and say yea or nay to just what it is we are to believe, it might be a step in a direction.

Evidently Prottys should keep a scoreboard about which side wails & whines the most to the RM.

There’s really no contest on that score.
