I just figured a devout Catholic would want to defend Catholic Doctrine.

(Mary's) Immaculate Conception and Assumption

My mistake.

“put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for
the place whereon thou standest is holy ground”
(Exodus 3:5)

Mt Sinai was holy ground because God dwelt there.

Was not Mary “holy ground” in preparation for carrying the Christ child? If a patch of ground on a mountain was considered holy because God was there, would Mary not be preserved from sin in preparation to have God-become-man in her womb? Would God allow his Son to be carried in an unclean vessel? No. From Mary’s conception, she was sinless, in preparation for the role that God had prepared for her. It was not of her doing. It was God’s. She is a creature of God, just like all of us, but she was especially selected by God to be the mother of His Son. He elevated her. What’s more, Jesus himself loved his mother dearly, and Joseph was especially selected to protect such a special woman, and the Child she was carrying.

Do you think God has limits? Do you not believe that he could preserve her from sin from her conception? Why would he let his Son be carried in an unclean vessel? Do you think that God would just toss her aside like a used grocery bag after she bore Christ within her? Jesus himself loved her so much that he made sure she would be taken care of - even as he hung on the cross. Why would such a significant moment even be entered in the scriptures if she had no significance?

Do I love her? You bet I do! Do I worship her? No! But she played a part in bringing Christ-our-Salvation to us with her simple and humble ‘Yes’ - and for that I love her. She is the ultimate model of what a Christian should be. She is a model, and a signpost pointing us to Christ.

Sheesh. Why is it so hard for some folks to understand?
