The high number of LDS contributes to the corresponding high rate of usage.
LDS culture permeates Utah. There is very little separation of Church and State there in reality.
Utah IS LDS by and large, and culturally moreso.
Have you ever lived there?
Ok, last post, really. I still, sadly live in Utah. There is no such thing as separation of Church and State, especially at state level, and it’s legal to establish a state religion, although Utah hasn’t (But the first 13 did!).
Utah culture is not LDS culture, the problem is that the weirdo behaviors of Utahns is so backwards and crazy, people associate it with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Utahns have the added bigotry of thinking their peculiar and strange cultural practices are related to church worship, and they’re not. Utah is a strange place, which has LDS cultural influences, but does not represent “the Church,” just Utahns.
If you want to talk about crazy Utahns, I’m up for it tomorrow or some other day. Since I’m not from Utah, I don’t have any inhibitions seperating Utah culture from Latter-day Saint culture. Just about anyone and everyone who comes to Utah, or meets many Utahns, that is a Latter-day Saint, will generally identify the weirdness right away. Not that Utahn’s are bad, they just do NOT represent Latter-day Saints, nor vica versa. THAT is a common misconception, and a difficult one to override.
