Nifonging the Catholic Church
me ^ | April 18, 2010 | vanity

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

I haven't followed this thread but did you have a particular priest in mind when you wrote this? People, including priests, are suppose to be considered innocent until proved guilty in a court of law. For Christians however, God sets a higher standard for which Christians are to live. And He expects us to live by that higher standard giving us His Holy Spirit to help us. Yes, we fail but that is NO excuse and I doubt if God sees it as an excuse.

Please keep in mind what Peter has to say on this subject:

Peter makes it quite plain that Christians are put on this earth to set an example. Our conduct should be such that we shouldn't even be mentioned in such lawsuits.

Christians SHOULD criticize other Christians when they have placed themselves in compromising positions. In many of the priests cases, they have admitted to molesting children. The Church's solution has been to reassign them or retire them-giving them full burial rights as a priests. I doubt if Peter would have been so generous if a person was known to have molested a child. However, we are so much more enlightened than what Peter said through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

There are some who are out to destroy Christianity. These people will make all sorts of false charges against God's people. This is nothing new. You may recall the righteous Naboth was falsely accused of cursing God just so Ahab could steal his vineyard. He was stoned but God exacted His vengeance on perpetrators. And many years after Naboth died, people talked about Naboth's righteousness and the unrighteous evil that was brought on him by men. Naboth became a testimony to God even after his death and God used it for His glory. Our lives are a testimory to God whether we are living or have passed away-and we should conduct ourselves accordingly. As Peter states, we may have insults hurled at us. So what?

The bottom line in all of this is that Christians shouldn't even begin to have these types of charges brought against them. When they do, other Christians should be critical. If the accused are innocent, God will reward them in due time. If the accused are guilty they need to seriously repent and face the consequences, or be kicked out of the Church.

What we really need is a good dose of FEAR of the Lord.

No, I didn’t have anyone in mind. I was just thinking how all men just have to walk on eggs all through life, to avoid being unjustly accused, even if nothing comes of it. It’s not fair — not at all. Joyfully mbibing the prejudices of the feminists (anti-Church, anti-male) is a real stain on society.

Those of us who love all the men in our lives — it’s a problem. They need protection.

INDEED.

The REVERENTIAL AWE/FEAR OF THE LORD

IS

THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM.

THAT IS THE TRUTH.

. . . and meat and drink to all who would KNOW AND WALK INTIMATELY OR AT ALL WITH GOD.

You make good points there about the protection of men in this man shredding rabidly feminized culture so intent on destroying family structures God set up in order for

THE STATE to play and be as God.

Alas, Judith, I don’t think it will be fixed until after

THE RETURN OF THE KING at Armageddon

when all TRUE HOBBITS can REJOICE ETERNALLY and rule and reign with HIM.

PRAISE HIS BLESSED NAME.

I hope to see you in that number.

Life is NOT fair. That’s just the way it is.

Christians are called to “love justice” but we make a big mistake when we back the wrong horse. Each of us need to be focus on our walk and let God defend others and us.

Well, the only justification for me is Christ's sacrifice on the Cross, His death and resurrection, and His Love for me. So......

As you know,

That’s true for ALL of us.

May all who seek good truly seek GOD AS THE ONLY AND ULTIMATE GOOD

and FIND HIM intimately more and more day by day.

Bless you, Dear Heart.

Most attribute “fear” as “reverence”. I think it is much more than that; but should not be thought of as fear in the loathing sense.

Yeah.

I think it is more of a robust term than current usage of “fear” might imply.

And, while I think “REVERENTIAL AWE” used in some translations is also apt, I think it is inadequate.

I think a LOT of God’s presentations of Himself in the Old Testament were designed to imprint on mankind at the time

THAT HE IS GOD.

THAT HE ALONE IS GOD.

THAT HE IS ALL POWERFUL, ALL . . . A LONG LIST OF EXTREMELY POTENT QUALITIES

and that THEREFORE, man’s ONLY HOPE was to ally WITH GOD ON HIS TERMS—which required (& requireS) ULTIMATE 100% RESPECT AND SUBMISSION TO HIS AWESOMENESS.

FEAR of GOD puts man in the RIGHT PERSPECTIVE to appreciate, apprehend, relate to, be intimate with God.

Any other perspective is suicidally arrogant.

Thankfully, He does not leave us there.

He carrys us on to intimacy through Christ’s Precious Blood to ABBA, FATHER, DADDY.

YET, On occasion, we need refresher courses to keep in place that understanding and knowledge

OF GOD AS MT SINAI FEARSOME, AWESOME, ALLLLLL POWERFUL, EXACTING, HOLY BEYOND MEASURE.

INDEED.

And if the bureaucratic political power mongering magicsterical wants to up its power and ignore or redefine out of existence some of God’s Word . . . they know very well how to do it from long practice.

Billy Graham has a lifelong habit . . .

if he’s alone in an elevator and a woman get on, he’ll get off at that floor.

I have a similar habit. When I’m alone on an elevator and a woman gets on she gets right back off at that floor.

Paul's letters as bishop to his flock were chosen by the Church as Scripture, the same as James and Peter. We cannot throw them out - if you read the Catechism, much of the proofs come from Paul (although not, as with the Reformed Confessions, from Paul and the OT to the almost total exclusion of the Gospels).

This is all very true. Throwing them out, disregarding them, or applying some tortured, heretical interpretation to them are all unacceptable.

The funny part about it is that the schismatics of the 16th Century were not the first to do so. Marcion did exactly the same thing back in the 2nd Century. He, through his own wisdom, determined that the St Luke's Gospel and Acts and St Paul's epistles were the only writings of worth. He relegated the remainder of the apostolic writings to apocryphal status.

If Paul was instructed to bring the Good News to the Gentiles by God, why did he spend most of his first missionary journey preaching to the Jews and why was Peter the first Bishop of Rome?

What do you mean 'if' Paul was instructed??? You only have to read thru the Bible once to know this...

Gal 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

Oh, and BTW, Rome was filled with uncircumcised folks...Peter had no business being in Rome...And he wasn't...He was off somewhere else preaching to the 'circumcision' as he was instructed by God...

Does anyone here think it’s possible to bully me into like St. Paul? Or to scare me into it? I don’t like the man revealed by his writing. I do not think he was very tightly wrapped; I think he may have been insane. His level of sophistication does not impress me.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (New International Version) 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
