Well you brought up Mary, here's a verse I noticed yesterday

Matthew 2:11

On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him

Him, not Mary

Which . . . MIGHT be one thing

IF

Father asks one to choose between vanilla vs chocolate icecream.

WHEN FATHER is FATHER GOD and Paul is HIS CHIEF NEW TESTAMENT SCRIBE, I suspect telling God that HE is

—unwise or
—thick-headed or
—stupid for selecting Paul for the task . . .

welllllllll . . .

the implications of such cheekiness in the face of God could be markedly different than those of choosing icecream.

killing the prophets is nothing new, nor is despising them

GC: We Prods have always suspected that FRoman Catholics have a low view of scripture.

Judith Anne I personally do not worship Paul, nor do I hang on his every word in the NT. I tend to think he was insane. However, God can do anything, use anybody.

So despite your statement to the contrary, you do have a low view of Scripture. Regardless of his state of mind Romans and the rest of his writings are in in the canon. That is one thing Roman Catholics agree on. His works were inspired by God. To dismiss 1/3 of the NT as the work of a madman is to hurl insults at the Holy Spirit.

Now back to my original question, slightly rephrased: Is this your opinion or is it Roman Catholic doctrine? Does your priest teach this or did you make it up all by yourself?

Does anyone here think it’s possible to bully me into like St. Paul? Or to scare me into it? I don’t like the man revealed by his writing. I do not think he was very tightly wrapped; I think he may have been insane. His level of sophistication does not impress me.

If anyone here thinks that I am going to knuckle under and praise St. Paul, they are sadly mistaken. I first read him seriously 35 years ago. As Dr. E. has said, those asleep in the Lord are DEAD, you know, like St. Mary. I doubt that Jesus Christ, Risen Son of the Living God and my Lord and Savior, will send me to hell for dissing St. Paul, dead man.

It’s a crying shame that I must agree with Quix et al on St. Paul or else submit to insinuations that I was drinking when I read the scriptures. Evidently, that’s the best he can come up with right now.

I despise St. Paul. Presbyterians worship him. I prefer, above all books, the Gospels but I am not ignorant of the other books. I’m not that wild about Jeremiah either, frankly.

People who WORSHIP the NT tend to get stuck in the Pauline epistles and criticize those who don’t, in my experience.

Reading Romans especially, has knocked many people off their feet and resulted in instant conversions, there are many testimonials to it, great and small.

FWIW, I always reccomend Galatians after John. The first time I read Romans it was tough!

I don’t know of anyone fantasizing that you are going to like or love Paul because of anything we

or the Roman Catholic magicsterical asserts to you.

Most of me doubts you would if you were threatened with excommunication.

I’m merely trying to suggest that telling God He made a mistake with Paul is foolhardy.

I have no real idea what God’s response might be—I’m just fairly certain it’s not likely to be wonderously positive.

However, I DO GREATLY APPRECIATE your demonstration that . . . contrary to a LOT of noise hereon about how homogeneously congruent and early righteous the dogma of the Roman Catholic et al Vatican INSTITUTION IS . . .

at the end of the day, Roman Catholics believe whatever they jolly well want to believe . . . more or less like everyone else.

So much for pristine exclusivity in terms of TRULY TRUEST TRUE TRUTH etc. goes.

Now now, silly, don't try to talk me into liking a crazy saint, just because you do.

I did not, and NEVER HAVE told God Almighty that He made a mistake. Any mistake, ever. If you find a post of mine that says so, please let me know and I will take it back. Because God does not make mistakes. That is a completely foolhardy notion.

this I will make a comment on... The abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. Out of all the molestation charges 2% were committed by Catholic priests. That leaves 98% from every other walk of life. I lay some blame on those who shuffled these men from parish to parish. I lay all the blame on those who entered the priesthood who knew they had a problem. Just as they do when they become teachers, boy scout leaders, ministers or what they choose to put themself in a position of taking advantage of children. We think it’s bad now...wait a few years. The way the children have been exposed to pornography...we haven’t seen anything yet. There are more important issues to be bickering about. We have to pray and act to change this country. This country I still believe is a Christian nation. Maybe if we’d act like it things would change. Our energy would be put to better use. How about fasting against pornography? How about prayer groups going into battle against pornography...that is one battle we’d better be wearing strong armour. We’d better put on our combat boots because I have a feeling ...no...I know we haven’t seen anything yet. satan is causing division among the troops and the army is weakened...he loves this bickering...it takes our eyes off the real battle. This is a spiritual battle. The battle is with him. I know it, you know it. The victory is ours. It was won for us by our Lord. Our mission is to bring as many as we can with us. To point them in the right direction. The grace of God will take care of the rest.
