Nifonging the Catholic Church
me ^ | April 18, 2010 | vanity

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

But it's Paul, you know.......

Yep. One man's "mediator" is another man's "co-redeemer."

Innocent until proved guilty is a legal concept that is to protect people accused of crimes from being declared guilty without a proper trial and to keep someone from taking action to imprison them.

Even if they are found not guilty in a court of law due to lack of evidence they could still be guilty as all get out. All that happened was that there was not enough evidence to convict.

And the legal presumption of innocent until proved guilty does not prohibit people from talking about it and arriving at their own conclusions. It just prohibits them from taking action on it.

There have been enough cases of priests being found legally guilty that it does give credibility to other accusations.

And the major criticism is really that the Catholic Church has not been as proactive in addressing the issue as it ought. It’s not that there have been priests who have managed to get in position and do such horrific deeds. It happens everywhere and everyone realizes that it is virtually impossible to prevent. But it is not impossible to deal with.

So, while the innocent until proved guilty applies to the individual men accused of such behavior, one can still observe the Catholic Church and its behavior, and rightly conclude that it didn’t address the issue as expediently or properly as it ought to have.

All believers are saints. The term was even used in the Old Testament.

However, this process of making a *Saint* with a capital *S*, and putting it in front of their name as a title like *Mr.* or *Dr*, is another thing.

All the Church does is confirm that the person is a saint, it DOES NOT imply that others are not saints.

That is something the Catholic church has taken on itself to do as there is no Scriptural directive for such action.

This is also something that most Protestant denominations do as well.

We are commanded to pray to God because He knows what we need.

Yes, Catholics do this.

But when you state authoritatively and falsely what the Catholic Church or Catholics believe, when you are neither a Catholic nor a Catholic scholar you are either mind reading, projecting, or confabulating.

No, I am offering my opinion as to what the Roman Catholic church practices and believes. And I back up that opinion with evidence from Scripture and Roman Catholic writings.

And that is not against the rules. Learn them.

Thus I am free to say "the Roman Catholic church practices idolatry when it erects statues to dead saints and prays to those dead saints," which I follow by providing the Scripture that proves this Roman Catholic practice to be in error.

Now shut up

lol. Thus RC apologists' final answer.

You're joking right? There is little or nothing to distinguish this thread from any number of thousands of threads where anti-Catholics spew their discharge.

What does saying the Hail Mary have to do with clerical sexual abuse? NOTHING.

What does the canon of saints have to doe with clerical sexual abuse? NOTHING.

What does a person's opinion of the epistles of Saint Paul have to do with clerical sexual abuse? NOTHING.

Very few posts on this thread even address the issue, the bulk of them are just a rehashing of things we've heard for years.

Certainly forgiveness is not at all about our absolving the perpetrator of their wrong against God. That is between God and them.

And, certainly it is not about us being foolish to invite the axe murderer to a weekend stay—a 2nd time!!! LOL.

lol. Amen!

You have to wonder what these guys were thinking,

You have to wonder IF they were thinking, as well. It's really sort of terrifying to think of a desire or affliction or whatever it is (in addition to sin and the evil one) that would lead ton such a vile thing.

"No, I am offering my opinion as to what the Roman Catholic church practices and believes."

You didn't qualify your posting as an opinion. In the future you have an obligation to the truth, if not the rules, to cite your sources even when it is your own imagination.
