Nifonging the Catholic Church
me ^ | April 18, 2010 | vanity

Posted on 04/18/2010 9:49:35 PM PDT by Judith Anne

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

It was YOUR analogy she posted.

You can’t blame shift and throw that one back on her.

I know what a crosier is.

I've just never related it to a penis before, as you did and have continued to do.

Oh they can . . .

and do . . . regardless of how rubbery, “logically.”

I think it’s part out of compulsive habit.

Actually, children tend to be more easily forgiving and letting things go than adults.

Particularly if trained in the Biblical principles from birth.

Children can readily understand the

BIBLICAL LAW

THAT IF THEY WANT FORGIVEN,

THEY MUST FORGIVE.

THERE IS NO Judith Anne only exemption from that law.

Please do not make this personal.

I am beyond shocked that someone who claims to be educated in mind science would so callously demand that an injured child forgive a molester.

Sick, and twisted.

Do you really believe that Saint’s Ignatius ,Irenaues ,Jerome,Athanasius were not Christians?

You don’t seem to have any idea of what the implications of such a belief would devalue Christianity

Perhaps you think people like Wycliff was a Christian -who once said “God should obey the devil” and thought everyone should read the Bible outside of the Church, including the error filled Bibles from him along with the error filled KJV’s and NIV’s

Gotta go-I will pray for you at Adoration today.

I’m aware of those doctrines and also aware that there is zero Scriptural support for them.

None.

Nada.

Nothing.

Do you mean no Scriptural support or just none that you agree with? There is a difference.

Where are the Bible verses that state that Mary was without sin?

It is contained in the third chapter of Genesis and the first chapter of the Gospel of St. Luke.

That she was kept free from the stain of sin?

Genesis 3 and Luke 1.

That she bodily ascended as Christ did?

The Catholic Church has NEVER claimed this.

That she is the mother of the church?

John 19:27.

That she is ruler of hell?

The Catholic Church has NEVER claimed this.

I'm not surprised by intense reaction to child molestation or child abuse and around here, abortion.

From my law enforcement relatives I understand that even hardened criminals - e.g. murderers - are outraged by child molestation. In prison, they are called "short eyes" and their life expectancy in the general population is very short.

Perhaps this forum should be limited to educated adults

Then what would Roman Catholic apologists do with their time?

That's interesting. I've never heard that before.

So we have Paul correcting Peter, but Peter never correcting Paul.

Paul corrected Peter once, not 'often'. You are wrong on the quantity.

Yet RCC apologists diminish Paul.

Nope. Peter and Paul are the greatest of the Apostles, venerated and honoured. Wrong again.

calling him a Gnostic

Nope. We call those who claim indwelling Gnostic knowledge Gnostics. Paul was not Gnostic. Wrong yet again.

and anti-Trinitarian

Nope. Paul does not explicitly teach the Nicean Trinitarian formula, but he was never anti-Trinitarian. Wrong once again.

while at the same time elevating Peter to unBiblical proportions

Nope. Peter is treated exactly as Scripture teaches us. Wrong again another time.

when Scripture tells us the Lord, Jesus Christ, and His teachings are now and always have been "the only rock."

Mischaracterization of Scripture. Not surprising since there is no Christ in Reformed Christianity. Wrong again for yet another time.

Got it.

Nope. Not this time either. Epic wrong.

Something of a triumph, really, Dr. E. You've managed to create a post in which you get absolutely everything in it wrong, with the exception of spelling Paul, Peter and Jesus Christ correctly. Notice the order that you put them in, too. Christ is the optional extra at the unused end of Presbyterian theology. Why is there no Christ in your Christianity, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you so very much for sharing your testimony and insights, dear brother in Christ!

I imagine those children who chose to forgive were well on their way to being healed.

If that accusation were true what does it say about those using the crosier as a badge of office?

"I've just never related it to a penis before, as you did and have continued to do."

Get your mind out of the gutter. Like scripture and the Catechism you seem to find exactly what you are looking for. I equated it to a psychological pathology, but I should have known what to expect from one who is so obsessed with sexual scandals.

we all realize that it's not the church that saves, that numbers mean nothing, that prestige is only being a respecter of persons, which is condemned, that their history is nothing to brag about, and that their spiritual fidelity is to itself, not the Bible.

Amen!

I've learned from these discussions that Roman Catholics believe the Holy Spirit is given by God not to individual believers. Instead God supposedly gives the Holy Spirit to the papacy, and thus it is through the papacy's distribution of the sacraments that men are saved.

The reformers of the Reformation realized this is not what the Bible teaches. This is not Christianity. Christianity declares that God gives the Holy Spirit directly to believers who make up Christ's church on earth and thus believers as lively stones of the church do the will of God.

"(True faith is) a firm and certain knowledge of God’s benevolence towards us, founded upon the truth of the freely given promise in Christ, both revealed to our minds and sealed upon our hearts through the Holy Spirit...

"We ought not to separate Christ from ourselves or ourselves from Him. Rather we ought to hold fast bravely with both hands to that fellowship by which He has bound Himself to us.” -- John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion, 3.2.7,24.
