Nifonging the Catholic Church
me ^ | April 18, 2010 | vanity

Posted on 04/18/2010 9:49:35 PM PDT by Judith Anne

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

Do you have the Pauline verses that prove the Athenasian Creed’s Trinity?

None of these are Catholic, any more than saying that the Church is a Jewish sect. Sorry.

Of course not. /s

My dear FRiend. You know I have tons of respect for you. You’re one of the good ones here. So please, take my words as they are given. With friendship.

If the Catholics you have been with, whether family or friends, are telling you things that are against what the Catechism teaches, they are either 1. Being more Catholic than the Pope or 2. Were taught by progressives that were trying to “make things better”. Neither of which are Catholics teachings.

We are overcoming those progressives, on both ends of the spectrum. We are trying to correct the myths and mores that the progressives injected into the teachings of the Catechism.

Those people must be corrected kindly. We are doing our best to do so.

Hugs again!

Only two people ever mentioned in the Bible never died, Enoch (in Genesis) and Elijah, who was taken up in a chariot of fire.

Every one else has died, their mortal bodies have ceased functioning on this planet and have returned to the dust from which they came.

Everyone who ever existed still continues to exist somewhere, either in heaven or in hell. By the Catholic Church rationalization, we could also pray to those in hell since they are still alive as well.

However, Scripture is clear that we are not to be going about contacting those who have died in this mortal life. They are considered dead to us.

Besides, there are enough people here on this planet to pray for each other, if people were praying as they ought. How is going to dead people going to gain you something that living people praying for you can’t accomplish?

INDEED.

As I’ve noted somewhere else on such threads . . .

It’s a straw dog chasing fantasy rabbits on thin ice.

They knew full well what Prottys mean. They seem to prefer to be obtuse to obnoxious—whether out of habit or dogma is unclear.

Prottys could head them off at the pass if they just referred to such Believers as “Graduated Believers.”

You can’t deny something just because it’s inconvenient.

And what’s that got to do with our praying to dead people?

INDEED. Just more Bible mangling, it seems.

If you ever decide to study the scriptures instead of your catechism, you'll find that the Kingdom of heaven is not Heaven...

Interesting case in point. Do you have any other?

And there is no lock on the door to this Kingdom...It doesn't need a physical key...The 'key' is the knowledge needed to enter this kingdom...It was given to Peter and the Apostles in the Gospels...It was rejected by the Jews...It will again be offered...

When I was young, I loved science fiction and fantasy.

As a mental exercise, even presuming that Jesus meant what the Catholics say He meant and Peter really does have the power to allow or deny people access to heaven, just what kind of man would do that?

You yourself posted the Revelations verse and I posted the Matthew verse. As a mental exercise, how about actually reconciling the two and admitting that the Catholic view is, as it always is, the correct view of Christianity.

However, many of the beliefs that I’ve heard Catholics reiterate, that FR Catholics deny are the teaching of the Church, come from such a wide cross section of Catholics across a large geographic area and many different parishes, that it simply cannot be an error in teaching by one local parish priest. That many unrelated Catholics who don’t know each other simply cannot be, by chance, making the same errors in interpreting the teachings of the Church.

INDEED.

I’ve noted that sort of thing in very different words on such threads as well . . . though you put it much, much better.

thx.

Fertilizer! Balderdash! Pseudo-Freudian Hogwash!

Now, now, just because you are not on the business end of the couch, does not mean that you cannot have mercy upon those who are.

I apologize to you Quix.
It’s nice to be called a Sister in Christ, without a prompt and spontaneously.

Lord Love you!

Shame on those who denigrate Paul.

Indeed. Even Peter agrees with you.

After 2000 years Peter is still blogging.

None of these groups are Catholic any more than the Presbyterians or Pentecostals are Catholic. Why would you even think so? Because they have ‘Catholic’ in their name or claim?

But it seems to be a common tactic to discredit any group, to take the teachings of one small, often extreme, portion of it and apply it to the group as a whole to try to discredit anyone affiliated with any part of the whole.

YUP!

And then to scream bloody murder

at the faintest whiff of a hint of anything similar from Prottys.

Sheesh.

I got the impression you thought that I didn’t know much about the Catholic church, that’s why you sent me the link.

FWIW, after I got married and moved, I’ve encountered a different breed of Catholics, not like the ones in the area in which I previously lived.

Their attitudes are much different and much less arrogant. However, I’ve never gotten into theological discussions with any of them. Suffice it to say, that morally, they are more conservative than many Protestants I know, which was not the case with the Catholics I was raised with and worked with. There is a non-denominational protestant church of sorts in town and the Catholic one, and most of the people here go to one or the other of them and I have NEVER heard any denominational bickering from either side.

They are very respectful of each others beliefs and for the tiny congregation this Catholic church is, I am very impressed with the involvement of its congregation. That tiny church is ALWAYS busy and has a great outreach to the community. The priest there is very gracious to everyone. Matter of fact, I know him better than the priests who were in the parish I grew up in. Them I only recognized by sight. Never even knew their names.

If those traditions of men occurred BEFORE most of the NT Scripture were written, then why weren’t they incorporated into the Scripture that was written AFTER those traditions were allegedly established?

Just wondering if you have made any headway on the Pauline Trinitarian proofs.
