Aside from the fact that the Apostles prayed to Mary, revered her and wrote icons to her,

Scripture?

we have : Revelation 8: 3 Another angel came and stood at the altar, 3 holding a gold censer. He was given a great quantity of incense to offer, along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar that was before the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the holy ones went up before God from the hand of the angel.

That's taken out of context. There's no way to know who those people were with those verses by themselves. If you go and read immediately preceding that, it would be reasonable to conclude that they were those who died for Christ during the Tribulation.

And what's that got to do with our praying to dead people?

But, it’s true, ol’ RA and I are very close....

I think of you more along the lines of She-Ra, Princess of Power...

I think that metmom has stumbled onto something that Protestants do not get. Peter has the keys to Heaven and Jesus still holds the keys to Hell. Salvation through His Church, and Jesus, the Judge, holds the keys to open the door of hell for those whom He damns.

Scratching head, wondering what that means. You schooled with the Society of Jesus, yes?

I understand the Catholic Church. I was raised Catholic. I have cousins who were/are priests and nuns. I worked and lived with Catholics for decades.

I know what the Church teaches and what grassroots Catholics believe, and I do recognize that there is likely as not erroneous belief of Catholic teaching bordering on superstition mixed in some of that as well.

However, many of the beliefs that I’ve heard Catholics reiterate, that FR Catholics deny are the teaching of the Church, come from such a wide cross section of Catholics across a large geographic area and many different parishes, that it simply cannot be an error in teaching by one local parish priest. That many unrelated Catholics who don’t know each other simply cannot be, by chance, making the same errors in interpreting the teachings of the Church.

Where and when did the blasphemous notion that the pope will stand in judgment on Judgment day arise? That one knocked me for a loop, and I was told this within the past year on FR, in all sincerity.

Paul taught a subordinationalist Jesus with an even more subordinationalist messenger Holy Spirit. As my verses indicate.

I believe you and your churh have a real lack of understanding of what the Trinity is...It is not nearly as shallow as you portray It to be...

A man/woman has a body, a soul and a spirit...Some claim the soul and spirit are one and the same...The bible says no...

So to you and other Catholics, what is the person??? Is your body the person??? Or is your soul the person??? Is your body without your soul still a person??? Are the souls in heaven without bodies still persons??? Is God who is a Spirit but invisible a person???

Is your soul subordinate to your body, spirit??? How about your body??? Is your body the leader of your being???

The scriptures are very clear that while Jesus was on earth, God was in Heaven...Two distinct persons in different places at the same time...Jesus on earth spoke to God in Heaven...Now, the Holy Spirit is on the earth and He speaks to Jesus and God in Heaven...

All Three are called our Lord in the Scriptures...Yet, the scriptures say there is One Lord...

Joh 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

Joh 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Does this mean that Jesus was subordinate to the Father???

Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

1Ti 1:17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Who's the King??? Jesus, or God???

And what of the Holy Spirit??? Is the Holy Spirit subordinate to Jesus or God???

Of course not...The Holy Spirit is God; functioning as the comforter, teacher, and so many other things, yet separate from God...

And will you find one scripture that tells you all these things??? Of course not...Any student of the scriptures knows that God did not write the bible like a novel...He requires you to 'study', to search the scriptures, to prove all things...

The Holy Spirit is not just the power of Jesus and God...God as Jesus was put on the earth to communicate, teach and lead sinners, in the flesh...To be the Messiah of the Jews, in the flesh...Jesus became like one of us, in the flesh...To reveal the invisible God, of which Jesus is the manifestation in the flesh...

God as the Holy Spirit was put on the earth to communicate with our souls and spirits...To convict us...To console us...To communicate with our souls and spirits...To guide us...To teach us...And who is the manifestation of God in the Spirit...

And do we get this information from your Catholic church??? Of course not...We get it from God's written words, the scriptures...

Go ahead. Provide a list of churches that idolize Paul as more important than Christ Himself ...

Just for grins, I did a Yahoo search for Saint Paul Catholic Church and got 14 MILLION hits!!!

Well, the OPC (Orthodox Presbyterian Church) official website says in its Q & A section that soul and spirit are the same. So, where does your Bible say they are different?

I wish you heretics would get your act together. Of course, there aren't that many OPCers, so maybe they don't count.

That verse alone does no justify the papacy.

Aside from that and the misinterpreted verse about Peter being the rock on which Christ will build His church, there is precious little mentioned in the NT about it.

Peter takes no role of preeminence after the first few years of the very early church. Neither of his letters refer to it at all, nor does he refer to choosing his successor, or anything that indicated that he thought more highly of himself than others.

None of the other writers of the NT refer to him in that manner either. None of the Peter/pope stuff came along until centuries after he had died.

The whole idea of the papacy has very weak Scriptural support, especially in the book of the Acts of the Apostles, where you’d at least expect it to be addressed somewhere.

We don’t need priests or a hierarchy of religious leaders to procure our salvation for us. Jesus Himself did it and we can go directly to him.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

I Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.

Hebrews 4: 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 8:6 But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

Hebrews 9:15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
