For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. ~ (2 Timothy 4:3)

Agreed. It’s the “easy believism” and itching ears syndrome. Too many country club churches around where you have to look just right and conform to standards established by the world that the flock has comfortably adopted. But Jesus himself said that the gospel is an “offense.” It’s getting tougher and tougher to find “hard” preaching these days—the kind where you hear what you NEED to hear rather than what you WANT to hear.

We’re bashing Joel Osteen on this site now?

Why not? Isn’t he a fraud who has enriched himself by preaching the Gospel of Prosperity?

His sister and I went through 1st through 12th grade together, and the Osteens lived next door to friends of my parents. They were a very religious family. To call him a fraud because he doesn’t beat you over the head with guilt is rather unreasonable in my opinion.

The problem is that one day, according to Scripture, all men will stand before God to be judged. Joel Osteen chooses not to bring people to Salvation but to good feelings and self-indulgence. Some of us believe that is irresponsible.

Having a mere outward form of godliness or "religion" -- has no bearing on whether someone is acquainted with the truth of the Gospel. In interview after interview, Osteen refuses to testify to Christ as being the only way to eternal salvation.

The success of an illegitimate coiner depends largely upon how closely the counterfeit resembles the genuine article. Heresy is not so much the total denial of the truth—as a perversion of it. That is why half a lie is is always more dangerous than a complete repudiation. Hence when the Father of Lies enters the pulpit—it is not his custom to flatly deny the fundamental truths of Christianity, rather does he tacitly acknowledge them, and then proceed to give an erroneous interpretation and a false application.

For example: he would not be so foolish as to boldly announce his disbelief in a personal God; he takes His existence for granted and then gives a false description of His character.

Is there a better place to bash him? An official site devoted just to bashing him?

I'd like to know of it, I can't stand the smarmy fake charlatan.

I am no fan of Osteen. Everything from his shiny hair, face and that crystal revolving globe.... something in my soul just cringes.

I have known many families that are “very religious” but have no idea who God is. The real question is...Is he preaching the Gospel found in the Bible or another gospel?

I rarely post comments here - but I completely agree - if Joel Osteen represents Christianity I want nothing to do with it. Jesus calls for a life of sacrifice - that the path to follow him is hard. Listening to Osteen is like listening to Jim Baker years ago. The “gospel” of prosperity is an abomination to the teachings of Christ...

Osteen and his ilk preach another gospel than the one found in Scripture. Jesus is transformed into a cross between Sigmund Freud and P. T. Barnum. It is not by accident that you never see a cross, heaven forbid! a crucifix, on his stage. It is a crossless Christianity in which God is little more than a Cosmic Bellhop. This is nothing new. Christ and his apostles warned us that many would be deceived by false prophets.

Joel Osteen no talk of controversy, no talk against anti-family legislation, no talk of abortion, nothing about the war on religion, avoids any controversy. Its all about feeling good and having hope...’sola feelings’

That is ALWAYS the litmus test by which ANY religion is to be judged. Thank you for the post. Very much needed. As for Osteen, I did think he retracted his side-stepping answer to Larry King that got him in so much trouble, but maybe not. In any case if he’s not preaching the Gospel he’s not worth listening to.
