I agree completely. I was just trying to figure out the legal wrangling and where the responsibility would rest.
From what I understand if a Bishop was informed in a confession by a perpetrator he could not go to the authorities. However, I would think any absolution could have been and should have been contingent on the perpetrator going and confessing his crimes.
Also, if a Bishop then transferred the perpetrator to another church, after hearing the perpetrators confession, it would seem he was then a participant in the crimes that followed.
They revealed their highest priorities in how they responded. I have nothing but contempt for anyone who protects abusers of children. I would bet all but a few of the most fanatical RCC defenders feel the same way. I don't care who it is, turn them in and if convicted send them to Pelican Bay.
What?! You mean chanting 10 idolatorous prayers to Mary isn't sufficient absolution? It'll probably take convicting a high ranking enabler before the Roman Church gets serious about policing their own.
