Granted as a cradle Catholic I didn't love her until I became a mother myslef, but any mother should be respected, especially Jesus' mother.
Being a mother I realize their is NO way any of us "average women", sould stand by and watch a son being tortured and crucified without questioning, cursing, fighting, and crying to God. She is exactly what the Angel Gabriel said, "Hail Mary Full of Grace, The Lord is with You.
Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit said, "Blessed are YOU (Mary) AMONG women, AND Blessed in the Fruit of Your Womb.
“... and why is this granted me, that the Mother of my Lord should come to me? Blessed is she who believed ...”
I didn’t see the point of Marian devotion, either - although I had no objections to it for others ;-) - until I had my own children.
I agree - I do not understand why a person would not at least wish to show Jesus’s mother the natural respect we’d show anyone’s mother.
We don’t doubt that she was called blessed, we just don’t elevate her position as Catholics do.
