I reject the idea that because Christ does not spell automatic application of the atonement for children that it does not exist. To me that is silly.

I didn't say atonement for children doesn't exist. I said that children-being-perfect angels at age 7 and 364 days vs. becoming an automatic sinner on their 8th birthday doesn't exist. (Even Mormons baptize 8 year old children on their 8th birthday "for the remission of their sin"...what sin if they've been perfect up until then?)

(BTW, children under 8 exert such faith that Jesus says our faith must become more dependently child-like -- like theirs!)

What does the tense of the verbs matter? You think Christ cares about the tense of verbs in the English language? Minutia.

The Bible is a collection of the writings of prophets as delivered to them by God. It is not written in legalese.

Christ saved us via His atonement. It’s applied to us when He feels like it. How can I say with certainty and why is it important the exact moment? Is Christ so particular of the details?

Yes:
* Whoever believes in the Son HAS eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." (John 3:36)
* "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me HAS eternal life and will not be condemned; he HAS CROSSED OVER FROM DEATH TO LIFE." (John 5:24)
* I tell you the truth, he who believes HAS everlasting life. (John 6:47)

Notice in the NT that salvation is spoken of as...
...past tense (Calvary),
...present tense (becoming born from above),
...and future tense (consummation with Jesus).

Most NT references are to the future. JC spoke of Eternal life in usually past & present tense. Why? Because He PRIMARILY defined eternal life as a relationship with HIM & His Father ("know") -- not an association or membership w/an organization -- & that relationship begins on earth.

Well I just answered this Q (essentially) in my last post (#83). It's all the difference between hoping religious ritualism will be "enough" for some degree of salvation vs. ACTUALLY being in a relationship with the true Christ NOW & forever.

I remember the first time on FR several yrs ago that I listed several of the Bible passages (Isaiah; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Eph. 5:25-33; Rev. 21:9; Rev. 22:17) discussing the church as the bride of Christ. And it just flabbergasted those Mormons. "What?" (They could only think of 'marriage' as a physical thing with a spouse; especially the families-are-forever indoctrinated ones)

They couldn't perceive of an intimate relationship with Christ. (And that's why Lds apostle Bruce McConkie preached so heartily against a personal relationship w/Christ in that early '80s BYU devotional)

It still does not fly.

mormon theology doesn't fly because it is unbiblical

Belief is a choice . . . belief itself is a work. And not a work, see Eph again. Man's wisdom doesn't work for on this - the bible is clear

Christ does the saving, but belief is His condition.

correct in that Christ saves, faith only condition PERIOD and is not a work as shown in the bible.

178 words, not going to read it.

That's OK. (You're not my Holy Spirit editor; He is)

I remember a certain toddler in my household who threatened to hold her breath. We said, "OK."

Bottom line in our convo: You've proven my point:
Block quotes (not going to read it)
316 words (not going to read it)
178 words (not going to read it)
What's your next standard? (Since Mormonism is a constant in-flux shifting quicksand of legalism, we just won't know, we'll we?)

So, again, you've sized up Mormonism better than I could ever do so.

in #50 I wrote:

Also, I find the long post of block quotes very tedious. From now on, I will not be reading any post that seems over 100 words.

I know it seems annoying, but page after page of block quotes is untenable to me.

You want an archeological discussion of the Book of Mormon? Why?

I’ve been dying for a mormon to settle down and tell me where these locations are so I can see the artifacts.

The ultimate LDS salvation is still through Jesus Christ, but it is conditional. In the same way salvation as taught by the Protestants is conditional upon belief.

We know; the AoF describes it.

LDS Doctrine teaches that resurrection is a free gift to all.

So does the BIBLE!

Daniel 12:2

Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.

3:16

Might be something symbolic there...

(How long did it take to COUNT it?)

But I do believe that Christ will condemn mormons for believing they can become gods over their own planet.

What a HATEFUL thing to say!

Where on EARTH did you EVER come up with an idea like that?

It sounds almost SATANIC!

Genesis 3

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "

4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

They are often not what the person thinks, just copied quotes.

Oh, I surely hope so!

Why should I babble about when the Word is available to broadcast to the world?
