I disagree...that seems to always be the point with the Catholic religion. The priests, bishops, popes...are all supposed to be taking Christ's place on earth. They are put upon pedestals as representatives of "the One, True, Holy Church against which the gates of hell will not prevail" - if memory serves me. They are supposed to be superior to any other Christian minister and, in fact, we hear over and over how all those "Protestants" are inferior to the "true" ministers of The Church. So when this Only, Real, True above-the-heathens Church lets her slip show...people notice.
Sounds to me like you have a severe case of Croiser envy.
