You are only the 2nd person I have ‘seen’ who has talked about this (ITP). My son developed it at the age of 9. I had never heard of it before but they diagnosed it as leukemia. Went through months of chemo. FINALLY, we took him to UC Davis to the pediatric hemotology/oncology. We got an appointment with the head of the department. What a godsend he was.
When I first took him to the doctor I was questioned unmercifully!

Leukemia is one of the first thoughts that come to mind, but his tests were negative...He was given a lumbar puncture to check for spinal fluid...At the time my father was laid out in the funeral home, so it was back and forth for several days....He was in the hospital until diagnosis and the platelet count was high enough not to be fatal if he fell and hurt himself...he was fitted with a helmet and wore that for some time...Sorry to hear your little fellow had to go through chemo. It take a while for the platelet count to get up to normal...But is sure is a mouth full to say. If one does not have access to a large hospital, I can see how errors can be made as it is not common...

Even tho I was a nurse and worked in hospital I had never heard of it, but it was listed in my Lippincott manual of Nursing Practice. That book is 1500 pages thick. Good for research but still don’t know everything in it...
