Sorry, I didn't intend to hijack the thread but I was a catholic for almost 50 years before I was saved by the grace of God and became a Christian, so it filters my response to any false doctrine.I had a couple of (baptized RC, protestant attending) friends who said that it wasn't that Catholics weren't Christian, it's just that sometimes being Catholic was a hindrance to it.

Christianity is binary. You are saved or you are not.

I often joke with my Catholic friends here in Mississippi that given their POV they are like Baptist with a thing for the Pope
