We believe that the intellect is ordered toward truth and that freedom of enquiry is important for the trained intellect.

That is pretty inconsistent if you ask me...Can you show me anywhere in the bible where God tells us our intellect is a sound judge of truth?

I will just as soon as you show me where I said the intellect unassisted by grace is a sound judge of truth.

"Ordered toward truth" does not mean "Is a sound judge of truth."

Of course it IS easier to criticize scholasticism if one doesn't take the trouble to find out what its tenets are. And that would be an example of how the intellect unassisted by grace is tossed around by the concupiscent and irascible appetites and confused by sin.
