Did you notice that in the other statue of Calvin, he's holding his Bible (or his Institutes) the exact same way, with his Hawaiian Love Sign finger as a bookmark?
These statues must be based on a common source, maybe a portraiticon. I'll go see if I can hunt it out.

Found it - different finger in the book, but that's probably just to throw everybody off the track.
In the shops in Geneva, you can buy little Calvin devotional statues to worship.
I think I like this one better anyhow:
