I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
Quix, I checked on this Lee character...I don’t think this statement by him at all reflects that which I made. I in no way at all agree with the following....
Lee cared little for the acceptance of his contemporaries. He wrote,
“We do not care for Christianity, we do not care for Christendom, we do not care for the Roman Catholic church, and we do not care for all the denominations, because in the Bible it says that the great Babylon is fallen. This is a declaration. Christianity is fallen, Christendom is fallen, Catholicism is fallen, and all the denominations are fallen.”....... ( This is quite ridiculous and as far as I’m concerned denies the faith.)
However Quix, Christians do share a common understanding of Christianity.... the centrality of Christ and salvation thru Him. That was the point of what I wrote. Also that though denominations have their individual doctrines and creeds Christ says we are part of the universal church of the believers with He Himself as the Head. So I have no problem believing we are united in Him, by His Spirit, despite our differences.
I see in both Catholic and Protestant beliefs that which I also believe...I also see that which I don’t and we disagree then. But those I see on this thread, and which I hold dearest also, is we share the foundational belief..... “Christ in me the Hope of Glory.”
Well, I think Lee seems to have been yet another whose position went to His head as He developed his own following. He became his own God.
SOME OF US . . . like the bloke in my mirror,
NEED to be that way about our
annals, too.
Yep.
That all changed. I remember walking home from church one day and praying, God, if you are real I want to know the truth. Was that me seeking God or God seeking me, or both?
It was God seeking you and causing you to approach Him in regret for your sins and to want to repent and obey and believe in his healing of your life.
Christians have that security. Our salvation is not determined by our own feeble, broken will, but be the perfect, predestined, absolute will of the Triune God of all creation. Rejoice. We are saved by grace through faith and that is not of ourselves; it is a gift from God, lest anyone boast.
Shortly after that prayer, within a month, scripture was shared with me from John 10:28-30. It was as if a light went on, is the best way I can explain it. I understood for the first time that I could KNOW I was going to heaven when I died and that it was a gift of God's grace and something he would never take away from me. I believed, I accepted the gift of Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for me, I believed in him as my savior. The Holy Spirit of God indwelled me and I never looked back, I never was the same again.
God sent the feet of the bearer of that Scripture to you. He gave you the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit who in turn gave you new ears and news eyes and a renewed mind and a heart of flesh to understand that Scripture in order to be persuaded that God had indeed saved you by the sacrifice of His Son on the cross.
So, did God open the door to truth that I knocked on or did God cause me to knock in the first place?
God caused you to knock because all men are fallen and everything good in us comes from Him.
Did he reward me with truth because I diligently sought after it or did he cause me to search in the first place?
He caused you to search for Him, to turn towards Him, to desire Him and to obey Him.
Remember, Jesus Christ answered your questions. He said we have not chosen Him, but that He has chosen us so that we would bear good fruit to gorify our Father in heaven.
A Holy Spirit breathed declaration
will out-gun
ANYthing/EVERY NON-Holy Spirit everything.
Dude, you gotta find yourself a new dentist.
578 Jesus, Israel's Messiah and therefore the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, was to fulfill the Law by keeping it in its all embracing detail - according to his own words, down to "the least of these commandments".330 He is in fact the only one who could keep it perfectly.331 On their own admission the Jews were never able to observe the Law in its entirety without violating the least of its precepts.332 This is why every year on the Day of Atonement the children of Israel ask God's forgiveness for their transgressions of the Law. The Law indeed makes up one inseparable whole, and St. James recalls, "Whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it."333
That is absolutely fascinating. Great catch.
Witness:
—Jerico
—Samson
—Red Sea engulfing Pharoah
—Soddom & Gommorah
—The chariots of fire around about the prophet being greater than the human foes
—Lazarus
—5,000 men fed plus women and children
Generals will be idiots trying to out-gun a 7 year old’s declarations with Holy Spirit on the side of the 7 year old.
I’m guessing somebody in the proof-reading dept in Vatican City is getting an unfavorable job review.
There’s tons of such duplicitous stuff in the Vatican system.
But it’s massive enough and complex enough . . . there’s LOTS of opportunity to ‘misdirect,’ shuck, jive, slip, slide, rationalize etc.
Thanks. From whence does this doctrine emerge, though? Where is the earliest written documentation of such an event?
Glad to read that.
I think your analysis of Lee is correct.
Watchman Nee was a faithful servant of the Most High God to the end. His ‘disciple’ Witness Lee ended up somewhere else, imho.
I mean when every last scrap of Sunday School lesson, translation, hymn etc. are all authored by Witness Lee and him only . . .
SOMEONE has a BIG ego problem, imho.
Thanks for posting this interesting find.
Or at least sit VERY differently in the chair?
Actually, and you might be interested in this, at the annunciation (probably), dated according to Herod’s death, the constellation Virgo rose with the sun shining through, and the moon was at her feet. See www.bethlehemstar.net.
And, just FYI, it’s Revelation, not plural.
Good advice.
LOL!
Alberta Premium Rye Whisky works just as well on ice as it does mulled with spices on a cold day. :)
De Wette III, 61. quoted in OHare, THE FACTS ABOUT LUTHER, 208. Msg O"Hare "A popular exposé of his life and work, based on Protestant historians. Incredible history; fascinating, damning evidence about him that is quite contrary to the popular image. Many quotes from his own mouth. Essential history!"
A Msg commenting on Luther telling the 'whole'story. No chance for bias here. I don't see the part where Luther states the Reformation was a mistake, or course the Msg might have that elsewhere. The 'errors' referenced have been around since the beginning.
Certainly not. The Internet was invented so that the practitioners of YOPIOS can second guess the Nicene Council and the Councils that followed. Luther's every milkmaid is more able to select and interpret Scripture than the Church Fathers.
What is your personal interpretation of exactly which version of the hundreds of different books available was selected for inclusion in the NT?
It gets funny after a while!
