Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

You hate Protestants...

Nonsense. That is like hating mosquitoes or fleas.

And their children...

Unlike most Protestants, I love and appreciate children. It is their adult parents that can grow detestable. I have six children, myself. All of whom have the better genes and demeanour from their mother

And their dogs...

Only if they resemble fuzzy caterpillars or shivering geckos.

And the cars they drive...

Only if they are government motors cars.

No, he is not. I believe that Iscool hovered in the vicinity of the Herbert W. Armstrong wing of the Pentecostals for some time. I'm just not sure if his pod is in that district currently. Iscool, if you could correct any of this as to your past and current doctrines?

I know lots of protestants, and have shared their worship services. None of them act like the protestants here.

That understandable...However, most Catholics I know act like the Catholics here...

LOL! I've noticed, but Jesus Christ, the Risen Son of the Almighty I AM, died for iscool also. I don't know why, none of my business, but I suspect He loves the little dickens.

Well ain't you cute... ;)

To: John Leland 1789
Leland was nominated to be the Orange County delegate to the Virginia convention for ratification. [of the U.S. Constitution] Knowing that Reverend Leland’s concerns were not so much with what the Constitution said but rather with what it specifically did not say, Madison embarqued an historic private conference with the influential Baptist. When Madison assured the man of God that he would lobby for a favorable amendment as a forthcoming member of the Virginia House of Representatives, his would-be rival not only pledged his personal support but graciously stepped aside, allowing the more persuasive and articulate Madison to attend the convention in his place (William P. Grady, WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT?, p. 167).

What a great explanation. Thanks, I didn't know that.

Leland was an interesting character. Your screenname inspired me to look him up (it's been a looooooooong time since I've studied history).

Although the monster cheese story is cute, I think the most fascinating thing I read was Gourley's article on Leland's evolving views on slavery. I was surprised to see his views evolve from being an abolitionist to supporting the rights of slaveholders. Apparently his views matured, not when or even shortly after he lived in slaveholding territory, but decades after he returned to Massachusetts. Of course, I'm not an expert on your namesake, but I still find that perplexing.

Do you have any insight on that?

The “ick” refers to your remark, which I take was meant as a joke.

Mark, you vainly trash my posts when all I'm doing is pointing out various Roman Catholic websites which speak the unthinkable...with Vatican approval.

If my posts are "sinking" it's only under the weight of the evidence of so much RC error.

What's the Legion of Mary and why is its blasphemy sanctioned by your church?

There are Christian Bibles, then there are non Christian bibles. Which non Christian bible are you quoting from? We know that it is not one of the following: Jerusalem Bible, Douay-Rheims, NAB, since they are Christian. Can you expound here please?

The "RC website" you posted this time is a BLOG! Doesn't it ever get old?

lol. Doesn't it ever get old to nitpick and ignore the truth?

Next time do I need to write "hundreds of Roman Catholic websites, some of which may be blogs?"

Website/blog/Legion of Mary -- its blasphemy is still sanctioned by the Roman Catholic church. Why is that?

("Hundreds of websites" was probably conservative; there are more likely thousands which tout "Mary's sacrifice.")

The truth is that John Leland, nor any one else here is coming after anyone’s churches or statues, trying to rip your priest’s robes, or steal your bishop’s hat.

Of course.

Nobody here hates Catholics, their priests, their bishops, their cardinals, or their pope.

While I've never seen anything but the writings of a Christian gentleman penned under the moniker of John Leland, I can't say the same about all who post here (though those about whom I speak are in the vast, vast minority).

But that really is not important. After all, if I don't have a thick enough skin, perhaps I could find someplace else to post my thoughts.

The problem is that you have NEVER posted a link to an actual Catholic website that substantiates your theories.

Mark, you vainly trash my posts

Nonsense, good Dr. E. I merely scrape off the outer layers of scum, detritus and offal in order to expose the inner core of hate and despite. And, lately, desperation.

when all I'm doing is pointing out various Roman Catholic websites

The problem is that you have not pointed out any Roman Catholic websites that I am aware of. You have recently, for instance, pointed out a blog. Why not point out the website for the Dominicans, for instance, rather than somebody out there that purports to have Catholic attached to their name?

which speak the unthinkable

There are some interesting allegations. I am not aware of which is the most odd - your attributions, or your answers. We do not point to a weirdo in the wilderness and claim that he speaks for all the Reformed. We point to the main websites for the Reformers, and their churches (example - the pastors of the closest Presbyterian churches to my house are listed by the Presbyterian church and not by a blogger nude in an armchair somewhere in East Slobbovia). The typical time we go after somebody of the oddity persuasion is when one of you guys point him out or quote him. We rarely seek him out and claim that he is typical Presbyterian. You keep posting from odd sites and keep that site location from your posts.

If my posts are "sinking" it's only under the weight of the evidence of so much RC error.

It's not my fault that your posts are sinking under the weight of evidence of so much Raving Calvinist error. It is yours.

What's the Legion of Mary

Don't know.

and why is its blasphemy sanctioned by your church?

Don't know what it is, what they believe and whether it is sanctioned by the Church. By the way, it is not my church. It belongs to Jesus, not to me. Another thing which separates me from the Protestants. You guys own your own churches. Good luck with that, I say.

I believe there is some confusion here between sacrifice and suffering. We weren’t saved by His suffering, but rather redeemed from the slave market of sin by His sacrifice.
